Hi ya`ll. I`m an armored car guard that works in the state of NJ. I recently got into an arguement over mag capacity in NJ. I`m aware the NJ lets you own a mag up to 15rds. I`m confident that you can use the same when you`re on the job.

But some guards believe that its 10rds only.

Who is right?

PS I know about the no HP`s so we can leave that out

During the federal ban, I had to get a letter from my Director  to get the 13 round mags for a Glock 23. I wanted 15 round spares and he refused to ok them as I did not need them. I go 6 - Glock 22 mags mail order (police turn ins), all nice and legal. I carry them as other street cops carry Glock 22s. In a situation, I can share  mags with a 22 or 23.

There is no logic in NJ...it is the black hole of thought in the universe.

2C:39-1y defines a large capacity magazine as :

"Large capacity ammunition magazine" means a box, drum, tube or other container which is capable of holding more than 15 rounds
of ammunition to be fed continuously and directly therefrom into a semi-automatic firearm.

2C:39-3j makes possession illegal:

Any person who knowingly has in his possession a large capacity ammunition magazine is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree unless
the person has registered an assault firearm pursuant to section 11 of P.L. 1990, c. 32 (C. 2C:58-12) and the magazine is maintained and
used in connection with participation in competitive shooting matches sanctioned by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship of the United States
Department of the Army.

Therefore, any magazine with a capacity of 15 rounds or less is NOT a large-capacity magazine by NJ standards, and therefore legal.

Depending on what your guarding in NJ you might be able to carry 30rd mags, but only on the job site.

30`s really? I`m on a money truck......That`s actually another question. I`ve heard NJ doesn`t allow shotguns on money trucks. True?

Are you sure about that? I'd want to see the statute.

Yep, Right here, Municipal.  15 rounds Max. We can have high-cap but only with a signoff from the Chief, and only for Duty purposes (Most of the places that will actually ship Non-compliant firearms or magazines Require a Form letter, on department letterhead declaring under pain of perjury that the firearms/magazines will be used for duty purposes and not personal use  MOST chiefs wont stick their necks out to sign those letters, at least not in my county.  Since We carry G-23's, and dont have access to any rifles for work, Everything I own is 15 rounds or below. On or off duty.
