I've heard that is virtually impossible to get a CCW on LI, without a "need". I currently don't have a need, but would like to get my pistol liscence for target. How difficult is it to get this liscence? Is it as hard as the CCW?

Not all that difficult if you don't have any skeletons in your closet, but be prepared to wait.

I applied in January, was interviewed in March and was told to expect another 4 -5 month wait in Suffolk county. Only 2 - 3 more months to go.

I just put my papers in in Nassau. they gave me a July 10th fingerprint Appt. so I'm figuring by this time next year I should be ready to go to the range with a pistol.

I know the main reason I didnt get it sooner was my stubborness to pay the crazy fee. which is $200. for the permit and 99 for prints. i dont know how long it lasts. I dont know, what the renewal fee is. I just didnt wanna wait any longer.

Nassau County.

Thanks all. I still have some time to wait before I reach the age requirement, but have no skeletons as far as I know. Yea, it's expensive, but it's worth it IMO.

Sucks to be you. Just be glad you're not in NYC where it's 3 yrs $340 + another $140 every 3 yrs for a rifle/shotgun permit.

NC = 5 yrs $200

SC & WC = 5 yrs $10
