First of all, hi from AZ.  I'm hoping to illicit a little assistance.  My neighbor wants to sell his AR to someone in a ban state.  His gun is "pre-ban" as far as I can tell, and he would rather it go to someone in a ban state rather than a local sale.  I figured I would ask here.  I have no idea which states are ban states, but I know New York is.

So, he has an Olympic Arms gun.  Serial number is in the BL4100 range.  It's a 16" A2 with collapsible stock, and it has the older funky style pistol grip that Oly guns had.  He asked me to list it for him.  What is a fair price for both the seller and potential buyer?  It's in great condition internally and appears to be fired little.  I know nothing about Oly Arms guns, so please forgive the vague description.

I'm only asking as a favor to him.  He's not trying to price gouge or make a killing.  He can sell it locally very quick, but based on principle he wants it to go to a ban state.  By the way, I made a post like this a couple years back about a Colt I had, and I was bombarded by people wanting to buy it sight unseen even before I posted it.  I won't entertain offers, as I'm not even sure we'll post it here.  He probably wouldn't sell it out of state if the gun is worth no more than it would be here due to the inconvenience of shipping.  Thanks in advance.

NY is a post ban state BUT as long as your AR or whatever has a preban lower, you can have anything you like on it including high cap mags. Otherwise if you have a post ban lower on the rifle you must follow the laws

If it is a verifiable pre-ban than I would say an A2 model as described could fetch $1,200 fairly.  Post election I picked up a preban Colt lightweight sporter that was like new for $1,250.  The hysteria has picked up a little, so I think he could get $1,200 and that would be fair.  Higher if he had accessories such as a rail system etc... but stock $1,200 would be my guess.

I'm in no way an accurate appraisal, but I've seen stripped preban lowers go for $500-600. Everything else on the gun isn't particularly special and it is an Olympic. I'd wager $1100 pretty easily, maybe more. At a gun show up here, he'd probably be able to get $1500 because new Olympics are going for $1100.

NEW Olympics are $1,100 near you, WTF?  I've seen S&W M&Ps for $1,200 but never a new Oly for $1,100... that is some seriously crazy shit!

At the gun show...sold a couple mags to a guy who was in the process of buying an Olympic A2 for $1,100. When I asked him what the manufacturer was he didn't know, so I looked. That was after money exchanged hands, and was waiting on the NICS to come back.

Thanks guys.  That's probably more than he will ask, but it's good to know.  If he decides to sell it, I'll post it for him on Tuesday when I see him next.

As for getting more for it in a ban state he absolutly could.  If I lived in a free state I defiantly wouldn't pay the extra money a pre-ban brings.
