Does anyone here have one of these?  PTR

My dealer gets some in every now and then and I am thinking about picking one up.

Also, if the AWB comes back, will these suffer the same fate as our AR's?

Yes they are legal in a post ban configuration. I have one, mine doesnt have any muzzle device of the sort. You cant order any with a FH or a comp if its not perm fixed.

I have one. Good rifle. Never had a problem with it unlike the Century pos I had before. Mine has a pinned, welded muzzle break.

The factory ban compliant model is the PTR-91C. It comes from the factory with a permanently attached compensator and 10rd mag.

Ive been meaning to sell mine and build a 308 AR, but fuck might as well keep what i got, you never know. It will take a long time to build money wise, id hate to build it half way and then all of a sudden they throw a ban on it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.  So, if the ban comes back, then the PTR-91 would get treated just an AR right, and it would be a no go?

I just finished building my G3 and CETME last week. Just have to get to the range and test fire it then paint it.

Just got a ptr-91 yesterday. It was the ptr-91f with the flash suppressor so I swapped it for a comp and called it a day. Have not got out with it yet, but its built like a sherman tank if youve only shot .223 AR's. Front heavy too. But thats the only complaint Ive ever heard. The ptr-91C is the one with the factory comp, but it is impossible to find. More then linkely you will have to go with an "f" and get a ffl who will let you swapp a comp on it.

Yes they are very front heavy and if they are anything like the old ones and have a short stock that makes it even worse because the recoil fucks your shit up. Mine doesnt have any muzzle device OR a damn recoil buffer so it kicks like a mother fucker, let me tell you. Ive been meaning to get one though.

Also dont forget that comp needs to be perm attached if its not already

Great history on this platform (Originially of course the G3 and spanish CETME before that).  For a long time this platform and the FN FAL one armed most of the free (non-communist) world.

Its so strange, Ive never heard such inconsistent reviews on anything in my life, compared to the recoil perception of the PTR. Some people say its an AR some say its equivalent to an AK, some an elephant rifle. Something must really vary between the individual rifles. Perhaps the earlier bolt gaps.

well....i mean one with no recoil buffer and no comp like mine vs one with both will probably have a huge difference, thus being mixed opinions. Ive seen some videos where it looks like the guy can hold it with one hand and have no recoil.

As far as the bolt gaps go with the older ones is that they increase after quite a few rounds.

A little while back, there were PTRs like mine being sold by the masses for like 600 bucks from Sarcos and a few other places in NJ. Thats the one i have.

I thought the issue was the shrinking bolt gap? Yeah PWS is coming out with a comp/suppressor 50 state legal with the 15x1mm threads. Ive seen videos of them shooting ar's with one hand out in front of them and no climb at all so hopefully it will mean good things for the PTR (aside from just reducing muzzle flip).

I actually have a PWS comp on my AR right now, thing is fucking amazing, i love it.

Ive been wanting to get one and send it to ADCO to thread it and throw that thing on, but being layed off recently and having no pot to even piss in, its unlikely right now

and the bolt gap thing, maybe it was shrinking i cant remember, i just no there was a problem with it. I didnt care to look into it much since i cant afford to shoot 5000 rounds of 308 every weekend like most of these guys complaining about the problem haha

Yeah, the earlier serial numbered PTR's had some bolt gap shrinking issues which made them kick like a mule. If you ever are interested there is a way to reset your bolt gap. Makes a world of difference. I just watched a you tube video on it haha.

I'm one of the folks that thinks its kicks about like an AK. Not as bad as my M1A with a flash suppressor. Also, it has the factory muzzle break from PTR Inc. Somehow, and I have no clue why, my 22 inch M1A is LOUDER then my PTR with a break and a 16 inch barrel. No clue why. You got a PTR zerothomas?

yeah i do, an older one. Im thinking about selling it though and getting the funding for an Arsenal SLR-107UR Krink

Only picture i have, obviously the one on the top lol

I love mine think it recoils as much as my SKS. Although i shoot mostly C&R bolt guns. Friends who have shot it  havent really complained. Its also a neutered version.

I have a PTR91-C with the muzzle brake on the front. Great gun, however it mangles brass so don't shoot  brass you plan on reloading. Very awesome rifle, no complaints here. All the parts are faily cheap for it. I bought the wood furniture for it, 2 stocks 3 front grips, for $12 (some minor modification to the stock to get it to fit, but very close match. Mine has the Navy lowder (the SF markings NOT SEF), this means that the pistol grip is built into the lower trigger housing and cannot be modified since it is all 1 piece.

However, it is a very dificult rifle to clean due to the bolt mechanism. Very fun, always turns heads hehe.
