| I recently turned 21, and am attempting to get my paperwork in sooner than later for obvious reasons. I would like a CCW over a premises permit. I am wondering what i should place on the line for reason. Should i place all the reasons i can think of. Hunting? Target? Personal protection? (I am an EMT/FF and it wouldn't be the first time family has come after a person after a family member has died). No i do not plan on actually carrying on an ambulance etc, those things are illegal. Defense of others? What else should I be putting on this line. Thanks for the help. |

Pistol licenses are issued for cause. If you don't list the reason(s) on the application you're not going to get an unrestricted license. |

Put the following words in the reason why: "For personal protection." No reason to not just state the whole truth, you want to CCW. I put that, my wife put that and that is what they Sheriffs Office instructs you to put down if that is what you want your permit for and all the people that I know personally that put that or some similiar variation of that all got approved for an unrestricted/carry permit. Now don't get me started on the whole need a permit to possess a pistol in the first place, its fucking ridiculous, but that is another ball of wax for another time... With any bit of luck, you'll have your permit in hand for the Christmas 09' shopping season
Yep, +1 to everything LuvBUSHmaster said. Monroe County is pretty good about permits. I had a longwinded reason. I said "hunting, target practice, hiking, personal protection, and competition" I've never seen a restricted monroe county permit but I've "heard stories" about them in Gander Mountain. Asked the same thing in Pro Gun and they said that they have never seen a restricted permit either. If you submit now (and they go the same rate they have been for the last year) then you should see your permit sometime in Sept. or October. |

Sounds like the form has been revised. Back when I got my CCW I remember just having to check off the listed reasons for the application. And I was told to check off them all.
Also, don't know if this is still SOP but years ago the apps were reviewed every so often. So depending on when you applied wait time varied from a couple of months to almost a year. We had to have character witness signatures notarized back then. What a PITA. |

The Sheriffs Dept has a lady named Patty that does the calling for reference checks. Once Patty starts calling your references and your spouse, you have about a month to month and a half until your permit arrives. |

Finding people, getting them to notarize something that didn't matter much to them personally, etc. Luckily, you don't need notarized witness signatures anymore. Damn, that would suck. |

Is there any restrictions on where you can/can't carry in NY with the monroe permit? is it good for the whole state? And do you have to be a monroe county resident to apply for it in monroe? Yes, there are a few restricted areas such as Federal Buildings, schools. I ignore the " no firearms permitted" signs at movie theaters and such. Concealed carry is just that. And you apply in the county you reside in. |

Years back I put down "Hunting & Target Shooting" and my permit came back with "Hunting and Target Shooting Only" hand written on the front. (judge was Kabart I think?). Couple of years ago I wrote a nice letter to get it fixed and Patricia Marks endorsed a new permit for me with no restrictions. Learn from my experience, write down "Personal Protection". |

Officially against company policy where I worked but not illegal as far as I could ever find. Even a few bosses carried. This was about 15 years back though. |

Quoted: see, thats not right. A resident of Monroe county can easily get a CCW for the entire state, but a resident of nassau county cant get a CCW to save his life... You can get an unrestricted license in any county including NYC if you have the right juice. Your problem is you don't have any. ![]() |

In Saratoga county, i was told if i used that excuse that i would be automatically rejected. Saratoga says they do not issue unrestricted. Schenectady Co. does, so i moved and i now have unrestricted, go figure. |
