How is the overall barrel length measured - is it to the crown or to the end of the compensator? I'm having an AR made and have ordered a 16 inch barrel.
I couldn't find anything on this in the legal faqs.

If the compensator is permanently attached, then it counts towards barrel length.

Is the legal length then 16 inches? I just phoned up one store and they told me 18. That doesn't seem right to me.

16 for rifles 18 for shotguns. Bolt face to the end of the bbl which can include a perm attached comp.
