For any Suffolk county guys out there who haven't tried it yet, Brookhaven is a pretty decent place to shoot. I just "discovered" it two weeks ago. I've only been there twice--both visits were on Wednesdays--but each time was enjoyable. They've got a list of rules that are a little excessive, but they balance things out with semi-decent facilities. Although I have gone and will continue to go to Calverton, Brookhaven is the Beverly Hills Gun Club compared to Calverton! You can have more unrestricted fun at Calverton, but with its benches, sandbags, overhead cover, and controlled environment, Brookhaven seems pretty cool. Good place to sight a rifle. Just thought I'd let other Noobs know about it. |
No, no, no.... Guys, don't misunderstand me. I thought the range officer was a nice guy. I thought everyone was nice. The rules are the rules. I've been a rule follower my whole life. It's a shame I can't shoot standing up, that's all. Oh, and the 5 rounds per mag thing is a little restrictive. See you guys there. |
Excellent. Hopefully we can all get on the same sqaud. I've used the 75gr Prrivi and have been very happy with it. So far I shot 400rds of the stuff and not one problem. I just shot a Service Rifle Match on Sunday and won with a stock Colt Hbar 1:7 and the Privi. Well I am going to bring my tripod to tape our sqaud. I have the helmet came too but usually feel like an ass wearing it so maybe I can talk someone else into wearing it. |

"Oh, and the 5 rounds per mag thing is a little restrictive. Well the 5 round rule only exists if you make it. When people ask me about loading more than 5 rounds, I tell them "It's not an issue unless you make it one." Unless you bang out a whole bunch in a row in a nice staccato beat, nobody is going to know, or going to care. The only other time it's an issue (the real issue I suppose) is when the RO calls to "fire out". Rather than stop shooting, or drop the magazine and fire out the round in the chamber, some genius always tries to squeeze in 15 more because they're already in the magazine. This time of year, the shade alone is worth the restrictions. |
Can't you just stick it on the rail? Or will that one last straw be too much. One more item on that thing and you'll tip right over like Fred Flinstone's car, when he'd get the large order of ribs at the end of every show. I'm looking forward to shooting up what is now about $100 worth of ammo. ![]()
Oh good... your first day of work! I'll call Ed and tell him to expect you. Somebody's got to, I don't think anyone else is available. No one's on the schedule as far as I know. This is your time to shine!! |
$15 for 4 hours IIRC or at least that what it says on the receipts. Maybe they just wanted me out of there ![]() I like Brookhaven. Clean and safe place to shoot. I too wish I could shoot standing, kneeling or prone. Bench is fine and can be fun, however I like the flexability in practice. I just wish they never closed the Huntington/Melville range |

Another FWIW... in all the years I've been going there (23+ years now?) I can't remember seeing anyone made to leave because they'd been there too long. So the 4 hour thing isn't really enforced either. In theory, it could happen during hunting season, when it's wall to wall and multiple people are sharing a bench, but even that's rare. " I too wish I could shoot standing, kneeling or prone" For the record; me too. |
| the match at the Pine Barens club by the air port ?, i was kinda thinkin' on it..i wish i knew the course of fire so I could figure if the M-1 carbine will work out...sounds like a lot of fun, might just do a drive by to see what a "Commie" gun match is all about |
) and Ill be a brookhaven Saturday morning for a little practice.
