| According to the latest North Country Gazette, the Glens Falls Post Star has had a FOIL request launched into ITS activities, and guess what, apparently the editors lied, they were trying to get the names and addreses of pistol permit holders so that they could be published. I say keep the pressure, and the boycott, on the Post Star. |
A newspaper actually telling the truth.....the tooth fairy is more believable.

Here's a thread I posted a few days ago about the Post-Star: Link Here's a thread on the NYSRPA blog: Post Star FOILing for license lists |

The anger at this should not be directed at the paper, it's entirely predictable that liberals will pull this kind of sh*t. Instead, direct your anger at a legislature that allows personal information to be released in this manner. If somebody has some free time, please FOIL out a list of the names, address, telephone, social security, and date of birth of all the actors and celebrities with permits. I guarantee you the system will change overnight. |
When the local paper published the list of WC pistol license holders it outed several anti-gun WC politicians including the WC Executive. Senator Seward has introduced a bill in the Senate to prohibit the release of pistol licensee info except for authorized LE purposes. You should contact Senator Volker and your local Senator and Asseblyperson to support this BIll. Senator Dale Volker Chairman of the New York State Senate Codes Committee 59th Senate District Albany Office: Room 427 Capitol Bldg. Albany, NY 12247 518.455.3471 District Office: 4729 Transit Road, Suite #5 Depew, NY 14043 716.656.8544 SPONSORS MEMO: NEW YORK STATE SENATE INTRODUCER'S MEMORANDUM IN SUPPORT submitted in accordance with Senate Rule VI. Sec 1 BILL NUMBER: S2733 SPONSOR: SEWARD SUMMARY: TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the penal law, in relation to confidentiality of infor- mation contained in an application for a pistol license PURPOSE: To enhance the personal privacy rights of pistol licensees. SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS: The bill prohibits the public disclosure of information in an applica- tion for a pistol license with exceptions for prosecutors and police conducting an active investigation. JUSTIFICATION: Someone who applies for a license to carry or possess a handgun pursuant to the Penal Law completes an application and undergoes a rigorous and thorough background investigation that will include collection of fing- erprints, references, and other personal information. An applicant's file, once the license is granted by the licensing officer, may contain material and notes compiled by police agencies performing a background check. The file may be updated periodically to include the kinds and numbers of firearms registered to the applicant. The recent publication of the names and addresses of pistol licensees in a three county area demonstrates the need to preserve the privacy of licensees. Dissemination of the names and addresses of pistol licensees identifies -- right down to street addresses -- likely gun owners from whom criminals can steal guns. Guns stolen from lawful owners can find their way onto the streets and may be used in the commission of crimes. Preventing the theft of guns and their criminal misuse is an important public policy goal and the bill will protect lawful gun owners from being targeted by thieves for gun burglaries and remove an important source of information for criminals. |
First time I met him he was speaking to one of my poli sci classes. The year was 1993 and we were talking about who the next governor of New York would be... he said let me tell you about one of my fellow Senators named George Pataki! Never heard of him, but listened with rapt attention. Two years later after finishing graduate school off I went to Albany for a job in the Senate. What a year, and in that year Pataki was a Rock GOD of conservatism! Soon after I went to work for him. The first term was amazing. The next two... |
| In today's Post Star, Editor Ken Tingley in a lame article "Open Government is essential to a Free Society" basically takes a swipe at gun owners and anyone who was opposed to the release of personal info. It also appears that, the editros are not sorry, and could care less what we think. |
|
This crap serves no purpose other than to harrass gun owners. We don't need a newspaper to publish this for the world to see. It does two things, make you a pariah if your neighborhood is filled with libs, or broadcast where to go shopping to the bad guys. Totally irresponsible but predictable for the liberals to do this. To them, only if you are a politically correct group will you get the right to privacy. |
| somebody buy copies of the paper for the next week, compile a list of companies who advertise in the paper and we can do a firemission on them with polite letters explaining why what the paper is doing is dangerous and that they should cease advertising in the paper because they are financially supporting this public risk through their ad dollars. If we can get enough letters hitting these companies they can pressure the paper. |
This guy is a real jerk and probably thinks he's much smarter than the rest of us yahoos. What the hell does "Open Government is essential to a Free Society" when we are not talking about corruption or acts of treason within government??? Maybe he should ask BJ Clinton and his wife? Didn't think so. |

This is what the asshole editor of the TJN said. The dumb ass didn't care he was publishing the names and addresses of retired LE, domestic violence victims and other crime victims who have pistol licenses in the county. "The Constitution gives people the right to own guns in this country, and it also gives people the right to know whether they own a gun or not," said Henry Freeman, editor and vice president/news at The Journal News. "This is a public record. People have a right to know that." |
Oh, and I'm certain that HE has information that the public should know, but he doesn't want to get out. People have the right to a lot of things that really don't need to be published. I don't have the right to other peoples business, they don't need to know mine. Arrogant, ass-hole. If I bring someone in who's obviously drunk/stoned I cannot tell anyone other than those involved with the incident about it, but the papers can trumpet the story on the front page is they desire, in fact they can try and convict by slanting the truth to suit their agenda, which is ALWAYS money and power.

So wait this guy actually admitted that the 2nd amendment gives us the right to own guns? Of course it doesn't it merely recognizes a preexisting natural, or "god-given" right. Just like the right of people to know what the government is doing is a preexisting natural right. Also why is everyone assuming this has a liberal bias? Maybe they are getting pistol permit names to prove there is racial/socioeconomic discrimination going on in the process of who gets a permit and what kind. EVERYONE here knows that rich, famous, or well connected, usually white men tend to have more "need" than a poor minority, or someone else the police just don't feel like giving a permit to, such as a battered wife, whose husband also happens to be a cop. Hell, the state laws pretty much state gays cannot even have a permit of any kind, as a conviction of sodomy is an automatic bar on a permit. Of course they are most likely just pointing out all the "ZOMG eval death machine ownerz who want to kill our chilrens!!!". Although if they want to put out what is also essentially an unarmed victim list by process of elimination. But if they do pass a law making this information unaccessable it will make it very difficult to get this info if the need ever arises to prove discrimination in licensing. |
| There is no legitimate purpose for a newspaper to publish the names and addresses of pistol licensees. These newspapers are anti-gun media organizations that have found a legal way to harass licensed gun owner's in NYS. They don't care that they are putting their subscriber's, the general public, retired LE and crime victims at risk by their actions. The bottom line is it is an irresponsible act by individuals with a personal anti-gun agenda. They should be ashamed of themselves. |
Please post 'em so we all can join in. |

The Senate Bill has been advanced to the third reading. Contact your Senator and chairman Volker to get this Bill passed. You should also contact your Assemblyperson and ask them to support this legislation. To date there is still no companion Bill in the Assembly.
