| i was wondering if the Magpul M93B with an adjustable length of pull is considered a tele stock and therefore illegal in NJ? its such a different design i can't tell if it falls in the illegal category. what do you guys think? |
| Only way around it is if it's pinned to certain length -or- you have a removable screw added at several intervals so you can use an allen wrench to change the length. As long as you require the use of a tool to change the length, you can do it. I know a guy who had Adco do that to a VLTOR. He needed to unscrew an allen screw with a wrench and remove it, change the length, and then reinstall it to adjust the LOP. Of Course, another issue is that a police officer might see that and not really care that you're TECHNICALLY LEGAL and still impound the weapon and toss you into the clink. By the time it's all sorted out you could still be effed pretty hard by the long wang of the law. |
Sure your sure that is legal in NJ? I was under the impression that the stock has to be permanently fixed to one position. The BATFE made a declaration as to what a fixed stock is during the federal AWB and NJ used that as their definition. The gist of it was that the stock needed to be pinned and or welded into position. Hopefully I can find it. It that were the case, I would do the machine work to all my stocks. Drill out every single position hole on the CAR stock, thread it with the appropriate size tap and use the correct length and threaded hex head bolt. Tell me it can not be that easy? |

not to change the route of this thread.... so we know its ok as long as its pinned or welded in ONE place....is there anyone locally in NJ that provides this service? I know I can send it out of state and have someone do it but just wondering if there is a local alternative out there |
As long as it's pinned and or welded in ONE position it's perfectly legal. To the other part of your question, I'm not sure about at all, but all you have to do it's drill a hole on each side of the stock and pin it, use some appoxy on the tube and where your pins are. It's pretty much that simple. From, Joe.... |
Blind pinning......preferably. If the holes are epoxied over and the pins are not readily tapped out you should be GTG. However, even NJ laws are not written in stone. |
Please post if you do. As New Jersey doesn't define "telescoping stock", I was wondering if the BATFE had -- also, what the difference is between the working of the Federal AWB, the NJ AWB, and the NJ SAG interpretations/guidelines. I was also thinking of going the allen-screw-to-set-LOP route, but there is on consensus on if that is legal. -WhyTanFox |
| It's easy enough to do it yourself if you have a steady hand or a drill press. Simply drill one or two holes through the stock and the rail on the buffer tube. Don't drill all the way through the other side. Insert a roll pin and cover the hole with epoxy. If you don't have a drill, send it to me and I'll do it for you. |
| brownells lists the ace socom stock as not batf legal for postban guns. that stock can be fixed with a allen head screw also. just dont know for sure what will fly here in jack a$$ jersey. seems like a letter to the nj state police may be in order, but who wants to get on the radar. |
If you run the allen screw in so that it's below flush, then put a dab of 2-part epoxy over top of it and sand smooth when cured, you should be good to go here in the PRNJ. side note: I heard a story on npr today that King Jon's popularity is headed down the crapper among turnpike and parkway users |
Remove the quick-release parts (roll pin, nut, lever, lock pin, spring) and just have a screw (or two) through the stock body and matching holes along the "rib" of the extension tube. Now, the stock will still "telescope", but it would no longer do so quickly or easily. In fact, it would have to be partially disassembled to adjust the length-of-pull. But if neither the NJ legislature nor the BATFE have defined what a "telescoping stock" is, then I'm afraid that even with the modifications described it would be illegal. -WhyTanFox |
