ok, I live in NY, I go to college in MA, and i work at a gun range/store in NH.  As everyone knows, in order to get a pistol permit in NY, you have to fill out the necessary papers and wait 6 months.  You can not buy or house a pistol unless you have that permit.

However, in NH, you only need to be 21 with a background check (that takes 15 minutes on the phone with NHPD) and you can buy a gun.  3 week wait for your CCW...unrestricted.  pretty cool huh?

This is what I am going to try to do.  I am about to submit my application for my NY pistol permit.  I will buy the pistol in question and wait my 6 months.  However, in NH, you can get an out of state pistol permit as long as you have a pistol permit from ANY state in the country, not just the one from which you reside.  Do you think the following will work?

I get my NH CCW... after i buy the gun in NY, i have it shpped to the gun store i work at.  Where I will be able to carry and shoot in NH...as long as the gun does not leave NH.   Once i get the permit in NY, i will be able to carry it back and forth (but won't be in NY as much as NH).

Do you think i'd be able to get the gun transfered to NH, and be able to carry and use it in NH?

Worth a shot, this way i get to shoot and carry in NH while i wait for the permit in NY.

I'm not sure exactly what you want to do. You can't have a handgun transferred to you in NH unless you're a legal resident of NH.  Are you going to wait for your NY license to be issued? If so you can just transport the pistol and carry it in NH with a NH CCW.

Hmm... unless I'm reading it wrong, what you said makes no sense. You said you can get an out of state NH permit if you have one from another state. Which you don't. So... you can't get it UNTIL you get your NY permit.

I don't believe you can buy (receive) a gun in another state, unless it's legal toown in your home state. Which it won't be, as you don't have a NY permit.

You can get a FL CCW which will qualify you for a NH CCW but under federal law you can only transfer a handgun in a state that you are a legal resident of.

That is how I am reading it as well.  Seems like there is a problem with your idea, but your trying.  If you find a good "formula", let us know.

rkbar,

Yes, that is what i was trying to do. I was going to get a NON-Resident CCW in another state, and use it to get my NH CCW...  I figured if i had the gun transfered to an FFL in NH, and the gun STAYED at that location...at the gun range/store, it wouldn't be a problem being as i wouldn't ever take the gun out of the store.

but if you can't even have it transfered to an FFL and stay there, then my plan won't work.

All of this would be to just be able to carry in the store that i work at...which like i said is an indoor gun range/store.  I don't like being unarmed while in a place where it is very easy to carry a pistol in public.

i'll keep checking, and talk to my boss...see what he says.

thanks for the inputs.

OK, I understand now. Forget NY for the moment. Talk to your boss at the gun store about letting you use a gun while you are in NH. Federal law provides for the temporary use of a gun as long as no actual transfer takes place. If you want to buy a gun from him when your NY license is ready just have him ship it to a NY FFL for transfer to you in NY.

yeah, i guess i can do that.  i ould basically buy the gun and it would stay at the store right?  but there has to be record of the sale, then wouldn't that have to go through NY because i'm a resident of NY?

arg, this is confusing now.

I was thinking along the same lines.  I guess it depends on your relationship with the boss. Perhaps they'll keep it on the books as a "one person rental gun" until you get your ticket.

Personally... my advice to people like you, waiting for your permit...  is if you're a regular shooter, forget about buying a pistol now. Learn to handload and buy some reloading equipment. then when the pistols come.. and they will keep coming, you'll be able to feed them cost effectively.

I've already got 10 magazines for the pistol i intend to buy.  I already have an IWB holster that is broken in that i've used at multiple advanced tactical pistol classes, as well as magazine holders.  I've already taken care of all that.  I've even bought spare parts for the gun i intend to buy so that when i can buy the gun, all that stuff is already in place and i don't have to waste any more time.

right now its just waiting for the application to go through...6 months ....arg.

Would he have to worry about restrictions if he gets a NY PP?

restrictions on what?

6 months? A drop in the bucket. I waited 10 years for mine.

yeah....most counties in NY the waiting period is ~10 months.

i talked to my boss, and he has no problem with me just grabbing one of the rental guns and carrying that in the store.  He would rather not deal with the purchase issues that would have to be dealt with cause of NYs laws and so forth.  He is all for the employees being armed and ready for anything... so i'll just carry one of the guns in the store until my NY permit is issued and i can get an out of state NH permit to carry in NH.

thanks for the input and help.
