Hey guys, I had thought to save my Post #5000 for something witty and thought-provoking. Instead, I'm compelled to share some sad news with you - Bill3Rail's wife of 19 years, Elizabeth has lost her battle with cancer. As anybody who has been to Calverton in the last year can tell you, Bill has been a big part of our group shoots: always ready to help with the work and never an unpleasant word coming from him. Liz will be reposing at: White Funeral Home 315 Conklin St. Farmingdale, NY (516) 249-0336 Viewing hours Monday and Tuesday, 2-5 pm and 7-9:30 pm. Also, there will be a small service conducted by Liz's friend at 8 pm on Monday. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Lion's Club of Massapeaqua Park, (516) 798-5551 My deepest sympathies to Bill and his family on their loss. ETA: Anybody wanting to give Bill a call can reach him on his cell @ (516) 457-7982 |

Guys, the service on Monday night was simple but very moving. Attached is a copy of Liz's obit from Newsday. She sounds like an exceptional woman. I think we've said enough here, so I'll lock this after this post. Anyone who wishes to say more, please contact me and I'll unlock it. Again, my condolences to our brother members and their families. Elizabeth Garner GARNER-Elizabeth, or Liz Garner as she preferred to be called, was never one to take "no" for an answer. A resident of Farmingdale, she graduated Hofstra University with a degree in Elementary Education. Liz (age 48) passed in her sleep on the morning of May 6, 2005, It will not be her passing that people will remember, it will be her deep enthusiastic love of the arts, people and life that will bring forth the smiles for years to come. Despite losing her vision to diabetes at age 28, Miss Garner's greatest accomplishments were to come after an event that would have left most bitter. It merely proved to be a catalyst as Liz would go onto travel the country participating in sporting events for the blind, including her personal passion, swimming. She became a featured speaker and regular representative for the Smithtown Guide Dog Foundation and was featured in over a dozen newspaper articles and photographs for her hard work assisting others. She became a lobbyist in both Washington, DC and Albany, for the American Disabilities Act, and was featured on television shows such as "The God Squad". A huge supporter of the arts, undoubtedly formed when she studied Television Production at Nassau Community College in the late '70's. Liz owned thousands of CD's and was a loyal fan of live theatre, musical performances and stand-up comedy, absorbing as much as she could find time for and enthusiastically introducing all areas of the arts to others. She was also very active in the Massapequa Park Lions Club, and seemed to the first person to buy tickets to every fundraiser she encountered. Liz is survived by her husband, Bill Hilton, mother Edith, brother Steven, sister Alison and brother-in-law Bruce. Paul and Jan Gilbert (a childhood friend) will preside over the services on Monday 8PM at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., Conklin St. (Hempstead Tpke) Farmingdale, NY. Memorial visitation is Monday and Tuesday 2-5 and 7-9:30PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Lions Club of Massapequa Park. Published in Newsday on 5/7/2005. |
