If you move to Queens forget taking your pistols with you.  It is almost impossible to get a pistol permit in the 5 boroughs unless you have an "in" with the politicos in NYC.  You will have to register your long guns also.  Try to find another county - like Nassau, Rockland, Putnam or Orange.  Westchester grants (and honors) pistol permits but they make it difficult and expensive with renewals.

You'll get a permit in NYC no problem, just as long as you don't have any criminal history. It'll be a 'target' type permit not a full carry, which you probably didn't have in Suffolk either. I don't know if they do permit transfers or if you have to apply again. Give them a call and find out. Any semi-auto rifle you have that takes a mag which can hold more then 5 rounds is going to be banned.

The renewal fee in WC for 5 years is $10. Are you thinking of Nassau County where the renewal fee is $200?

My mistake - I thought that Westchester had jumped up too with their anti-gun attitude.  Thanks for the clarification.

All your rifles need to be registered if they are not banned.  You also cannot legally posses either a magazine or ammunition for a rifle or pistol which you are not licensed for.  Pistol magazines are restricted to 17 rounds and rifle magazines are restricted to 5 rounds.

Both pistol and rifle licenses must be renewed every 3 years.  The cost to apply for a pistol license is $255 + $99 DCJS fingerprint fee.  I believe the rifle fee is $55 which you also have to be fingerprinted for if you do not already posses a pistol license.

You will be issued a target license which is no longer classified as a carry license.  NYC says it is "OK" to go hunting and target shooting outside of NYC with it but since it is not a carry license it must be transported unloaded separate from the ammo in a locked container.  Under NYS law you must be in possession of a carry license while hunting so I'm not sure how NYC says it is "OK" to hunt with.  Once again the idiots in NYC have changed the regulations without taking into consideration what the state law is.

If I were you I would stay in Suffolk if at all possible.  If that’s not possible then consider Nassau County.  They will hose you $200 to apply and renew your license though.  I believe because your current permit has an expiration date that you can’t just transfer it from Suffolk to Nassau.  You need to check with the NCPD to see what the procedure is.
