Anyone Know if the Edelman's Gun Store is still Around ? It used to be on Route 110 At 75 Sherwood Avenue Just accross from American Outdoors slightly down a side street, It used to be a Huge Store. Are they still Around? thanks s-3 |
| I was at my FFL's house today. I brought up the subject of Edelman's. He says that they were done in by the ATF. Seems that there were too many irregularities and they lost their FFL and consequently went out of business. IIRC, they were a big advertiser in the Shotgun News. They did big business in assault weapons at that time. |
You are not familiar with those scam artists that for hundreds of dollars will guarantee that they will get you a concealed carry permit? I also have a bridge in Brooklyn that I can sell ya! |
|
I just thought i asked because they used to have Good prices on Milsurp ammo. The Salesmen were the Biggest Jerks ive ever seen, but i,ve met Leslie Edelman Personally and he seemed like a decent Guy. Leslie Edelman went on to Start Kimber Pistols and even bought the property Kimber is Located on , Then he brought Kimber to New York. |

I was still working at Edelman's when they went under, so yes, they are definately gone. The pistol permit business isn't as much of a scam as you would like to believe, since you get a year membership at their 3 (4?) ranges on Long Island. I DO KNOW that their sales pitch is a scam. When I worked the car and gun shows at the Colliseum with them, I was told to say that "the liberals in washington and in albany are getting their way and little does the public know, but in 9 months, there will be legislation banning the private ownership of pistols......bla bla bla." They also had these two quasi retarded jackasses (Herb and Allen?) that were running the pistol permit show. I couldn't wait to ask to go back to working at the store for less money, but atleast feel clean at the end of the day. |
| When I say 'scam' I'm talking in the realm of them performing a miracle in getting you a permit. The only thing they actually do for you is fill out the paperwork, there is nothing they do for you in qualifying for a permit. So, if $300+ sounds fair to you for filling out some papers, then, it's not a scam. To me, that's no different then picking my pocket... :) |
Balzac, you worked there. I did too in the late '70's early '80's. At the NHP store. Small world. |
|
Balzac Do you know this one sales Guy that were in the Rifle dept . a lot, He kind of looked constipated a lot with a John F Kennedy type of Hair style, and when the customers ask him a question he wopuld look right past the Customer (not at them ) and kind of Blurted out a Reply (not an answer) as if he were programmed to saty that, Very Rude Guy , he were the reeason i stopped shopping there. I shop at T &T exclusively , great Bunch of Guys Except Marty the owner who seems constipated himself. |
Deliverator, it was the job that got me through some of college. Also a place where my father, brother and I spent many many saturdays talking to Curtis, Bill, Frank, Rich, Mike, Glenn and some of the other great guys that worked there. Who was there while you were around? Spiffy, as far as the Kennedy cut asshole, two guys come to mind, but I'm almost positive of the one you're talking about. He was an MTA cop, right? Wore glasses occassionally and generally was an asshole if you knew something that he didn't? (Whichj was just about everything!) I still hate that cocksucker, Bob Ishkanian and his whacky wife, Cathy, for closing down the store, rather than sell it. Bullet, as for the pistol "licensing" service...I WAS NOT a big fan of the guys running that part of the business and I did think that they took advantage of people who didn't know about the laws. However, how much does a one year membership to a pistol range with 3 (4?) locations cost? Factor that in, and their typing services were exhorbitant, but not a bad deal if you were intimidated by the process. I do know that many people told me that they'd never have gotten the permit if it weren't for us doing the paperwork and explaining the process. SCPD does not like armed citizens and has given everyone I know a hard time while requesting paperwork and even parts of the interviewing process. To some, its too intimidating to go it alone. Then there's Edelman's 100% money back guarantee if you were denied. Anyway, i just realized i went into 'sale pitch' mode. PLEASE DISREGARD IT, DO NOT USE EDELMAN'S PISTOL PERMIT SERVICE!! |

Yeah, I worked with Frank and Vinny, but I still can't remember if Danny was the name of the other guy. I'll ask my father, he dealt with him a couple times and would definately remember the jackass I'm thinking about. Frank was definately my favorite though, even though he frequently pulled guns on me and threw cases of ammo on my toes, he also bought me tons of Zorn's chicken and generally had my back at all times. I hope he's doing all right, when the store closed, his heart wasn't doing too good. Vinny was making the transition to the pistol permit side during the time i was there, but he was a GREAT guy. By chance did you know Curtis? HUGE dirty blonde guy who couldn't contain his stomach under his green shirt? Also made you cringe when he had to bend over to pick something up!

Curtis was a big fat blonde dude, with I might add, a shitty attitude. He wasn't happy with what he was being paid there and would let you know it. You know he shot himself during a calverton shoot a year or two ago. He was holstering a single action revolver and popped himself through the hand. |
| Oh one more thing about the pistol license gig. They would do it for Nassau and NY City permit seekers as well not just Suffolk. And I do remember the range thing. They had their own location (clearmedow) and made arrangements with a few other ranges to permit their members to shoot for free. Most of that went down the tubes as well. I recall my friend who bought the clearmedow membership complaining soon after that those other ranges 'refused' to grant him free access based on the edlemans membership. |

Curtis was a good guy if you knew him. Sorta like Pigpen from Charlie Brown. The funniest thing I remember about working there was his mid afternoon saturday naps. Well, he'd take them on one of the unpacking tables and maybe figured we didn't notice. Anyway, one day, Mike, an NYPD range officer, decided to take a couple blanks, load them into his revolver and pop a couple off a couple feet from Curtis. What happened next almost made me piss myself in front of everyone. When Mike popped two off, Curtis fell off the bench 5', hit the ground, then sprung up like he was a featherweight. Also looked like he was on the verge of a heart attack! The only downfall was that it was raining dust in the store for the next hour or two. Damn, I miss that store! Wouldn't know ANYTHING about pistols without paperwork, nothing like that happened around me, unless it was Joe Parker (Parkhill?) who is now working at T&T Gunnery. As far as my knowledge about Edelman's pistol ranges and such, I haven't gotten any fresh info in years, so i'll take all your words at what is the current situation. Nothing would surprise me when it comes to Bob Ishkanian. He's a piece of shit. |
u need to get out and try some new gun stores cause T & T sux. The one in Seaford anyway, the prices are ridiculous and the people dont know dick. I think that dude Joe , croaked. I go in there on a Sunday when Hunter Sports isnt open for a good laugh.Does he think taking ammo out of the box and putting it in baggies should make it more expensive. His AR's are at least $150-200 overpriced, today he had single stack AK's for $329 and SAR's for $459. I hope KY Jelly comes with every firearm |
The truth is funny ![]() |
|
As long as Joe works at T&T, I know the consumer is getting fucked. The reason I know is because he jacks the prices up on our stuff to fund his own. That's the way I saw it at Edelman's atleast. He's the store buyer, so its his job to stock the inventory. His favorite thing to do was to buy tons of Enfields or Swedish Mausers, to then hand pick a couple for himself, buy them and then put them on consignment for double the price. If these are excellent specimens, shouldn't he just raise the price for the consumer as a "hand pick" or something? Very shady bastard! American Outdoor Sports on the other hand, has much better people and their prices are fair, unless you're doing a transfer. |
|
I Have never been to the T & T in Seaford But have been Shopping at the one on Jericho Tpke. Used to be Floral Park, for Years , Stan is a great Guy and his Sons too. They always Gave me a Fair Price. If it were not for Stan i think they would have to close up already. |
unfortunately Stan or his son have no say in the prices. |
Correct - point the finger at the orange bearded jackass...Joe. |
Well, if its the Joe I'm talking about, then everyone's guns are safe now that he's gone. I can't imagine him doing any gunsmithing except for scope installations. If it is him, I can't say I feel bad, except for his family. |
|
IF this is the same guy, he wasn't just the gunsmith, he was the store BUYER and also a salesman. Everytime I went in there, he was at the counter selling rifles. He was a bad guy because he took advantage of customers on a regular basis. One such occassion, he sold me a broken M1a that he had put on consignment, then didn't want to take it back. In hindsight, I should have kept the damn thing! Preban Armscorp for $600, but I felt taken advantage of, since I was 18 and making $230 a week or so. I ended up getting a REAL deal from Rich a few weeks later when for $650 I got a manlicher style Sako 7mm mag and a Weatehrby Mark IV 257wm! What Joe lacked, others around him attempted to make up for. |
