| What type of place is Gainesville? |

Quoted: So I guess ya'll are saying it's not a good place to move the family? |
| Lived vicinity of the town for the last twenty years. Good parts and bad, just like any town could have, but mostly good. This is "Rednecks with Paychecks" weekend so the crowd was a bit less upmarket than it could be. I've never seen a "gang problem", but I don't hang around any parts of the city that might have that sort of issue. |

Do you or have you had kids in school there? I have not, but I know a lot of people who have. I have other sources too, that work in the community. There at least, was, a gang problem there. I cannot speak 100% in the now. I would not put my kids in their school system. My 2 cents. Not a terrible town, but I would not raise my kids in the town proper. Sorry Gainesville, I know a lotta nice people there, no disrespect, just real talk. Nope, no kids but knew plenty of people who attended GISD in the early to mid 2000s. Maybe having lived in the LA area had desensitized me to small town "gang" problems. I would hear that there were gangs but they apparently they weren't what I was accustomed to. I wouldn't put any future progeny of my own in the GISD system, but gangs aren't the primary reason behind that. Now, there are segments of town that I find less than desirable to drive down late at night (roads blocks by large groups of people, small roaming groups) but that's always been contained to one specific area (if you live near Taco Casa you're in that area). Now, the running gag that I truly believe is the drug problem in the town. Reading the weekly freebie paper that prints the police reports there are a LOT of drug charges being made. And you're not hurting any feelings of mine with your post. I prefer the outskirts of Cooke county to the city itself. |
| I've driven through it a ton. I'm convinced that the drive-thru beer store/liquor store on the North side of 82 and just East of 35 is a front for meth sales or something similar. I used to work in Oklahoma and that was usually my piss stop and place I'd grab my beer to take with me. The staff was...interesting, yet all shared the same characteristics. |
| It's fine. A fairly simple north Texas town. I'm not aware of any gang issues. Not a lot of amenities that really stand out. I'm not aware of any good gun ranges, but maybe. If you have an attractive job offer to live up there, there's no reason not to. But if you like a night on the town, it's not the town for you. |
