I'm thinking of buying some land near Van Horn.  Any input from Texas guys?

Not exactly the garden spot of Texas. Go north towards Alpine or Ft Davis, at least you get some altitude and some cool.

I drove through there twice on the way to and from L.A. Lots of wide open spaces. We were pulling a new Trans Am on a trailer. We got pulled over close to there by a trooper that pulled us over to tell us not to stop for anything until we got 100 miles or so the other side of El Paso.

You don't know where Van Horn is.

Yeah I do west of Ft Stockton, but I wasn't thinking geographically when I wrote it.

I could stand in the middle of my 100 acres stark nekked with a Glock in each hand and eat Paleo .....  Murica I say  ... Freedom to express who I really am!  To do that now I have to be in my back yard at 1:00 AM and hope that my wife doesn't catch me!

I'd suggest visiting and seeing what 100 acres of scrub really gets you in that part of the state. And i'd also suggest not running around naked while out there, every plant has thorns and is at waist level

I think land is cheap out there because anything you put out there, leave for a week, will be ransacked by illegal aliens by the time you get back.

And you can't set boobytraps in TX

John Madden used to stop there all the time criss crossing the country in his RV.  Some Mexican place I can't remember.  I ate there once on my way to Guadalupe Peak.  Then almost died on a freak ice storm on Columbus Day.  Yes, October.

Haven't been out there in years, beautiful views.  Our chiropractor just retired to a place in Alpine, said the place is really growing.

If you're looking for a place to eat when you're there, this place is right next door to the Pilot truck stop
