my dad was born there. parents met there. grand parents lived there until they died, granny just this year. Ford dealer on Hubbard across from the cemetary just as you come in to town from the east. right at the tracks to the brick factory. there used to be a house on the block with the Ford. My grand parents lived there since 1948 until it was torn down about 10 years ago. As a kid it was a big thrill to go climb Welcome Mountain.

I've got extended family in Mineral Wells. Had a grandfather stationed at the missile base which was part of Ft. Wolters. They stayed put when he retired in 65-66, IIRC. I've always had a fascination with Fort Wolters, the Baker, and other sites that were shuttered before my time yet remained in a perpetual state of decay to remind everyone of Mineral Wells' once prosperous past. |
