...from the communist state of IL.
Have no kids, so schools aren't important. Do have allergies and asthma, although asthma isn't much of a concern as I get older. Soon to be 45. Hobbies are guns and blown alky drag racing. Constitutional conservative (I know, rare in IL) political views. Used to 95F degree weather with 70% humidity in July/August here in the metro St. Louis area. Where would you move in the state and why? |

Near a drag strip... http://www.racingin.com/track/texas.aspx See which you like and can find a job near. Find a job first, then make your plans. |

Don't need a job. Bringing my business with me. Do you need high speed internet ? Do you need or would it be handy for you to be near a major hub airport? Do you need to ship a lot of goods in/out? Need good Amazon Prime access? Need to be near other businesses or suppliers? Make sure you think everything you need through. Then do the research to find the place(s) that has/have all the amenities you need... then I would recommend you visit in person your top couple choices and see which one you like best. FWIW, if you need high speed internet, that alone could drive a lot of your decision since there are only a few places you can get the fastest service at reasonable prices... If you need something like Google fiber or other megabit level service you can't get it just anywhere... |

Allergies can be hell here, just varies person to person. On the racetrack stuff, all I know is that Ennis, just south of Dallas has races. Welcome to Texas. Hking My Allergies back in MD almost killed me twice a year, Wife had no allergies. Here in TX it's the opposite....

I can do what I need to do on a 6MB DSL connection. Just need reliable, not fast. |

Houston is probably one of the worst places in the country for Allergies and Asthma. I plan on moving out of it one day because of that. That's true for some. It also varies based on where you live in Houston. When I lived in Kingwood, the pine pollen killed me every year. In Baytown, I have less allergy problems than I've ever had in my life. |

Yeah I imagine the closer you live to the coast the better. I've been in and out of the NW side of town (Tomball, Cypress, Spring) for most of my life, so yeah probably the worst place to be. The times I've been to the Midwest, Rockies, Dessert areas of the U.S. both my asthma and allergies disappear. |

The closer to the water the better. I lived in Phoenix twice. First time in the mid-80's. It was heavenly for allergies. I moved away and then moved back in the late 90's. Population had doubled and people had brought in all varieties of indigenous plants. Worst allergies of my life. |

Or the outskirts of a major city. If you haven't spent time down here, take some time to come down, check out different parts of the state and see where you like. Texas is so big that the entire landscape is completely different in different parts... East Texas has huge piney woods... North Texas has miles and miles rolling prairies with cattle grazing and fields of corn, cotton, etc... Central Texas has the hill country. West Texas has huge expanses of desert... Or you could just check out the drag strips and see which one you like best and move near it.. |

Are you asking all the state forums (that you're interested in), or just TX? I'm really only interested in two states. MO and TX. MO would be on the extreme outskirts of St. Louis. Out in the rural areas. If you care to look up the towns in MO I'm looking at on Google, it's Eureka/Pacific/Gray Summit (That's out I-44), then down I-55 would be Arnold/Festus. This would keep me within my "known area" and keep me comfortable being within arms reach of all my current business contacts and friends. On the downside, MO isn't much friendlier than IL taxation wise. MO does have suppressors and select fire availability, where IL does not. I have a friend in Plano, TX, and another in Midland, TX. I know Midland has a drag strip, as well as Dallas. My buddy in Plano is a conservative transplant from CA who hated the state. Other than trips for necessities, gun ranges, and the drag strip, I'm pretty much an online hermit. I don't camp or fish, or hike. I like A/C and central heat. Winters in STL metro IL are bitter cold and hot/humid in the summer, and the wind gales will chill you to the bone. Being single, I don't need much space. An 800-1000 sq ft 2-bed/2-bath home (not including desired full basement) with attached 2-car garage is fine for me. Having an unattached workspace the size of a 2-car garage would be a huge boon. Would like a 1/2 to 1-acre lot. I live well within my means. |
