I have been invited to hunt on a friends east texas property. My question is, is 77gr 223 heavy enough to take east texas whitetail and pigs? Ranges are from 50 yards to 150 yards.

If you are talking about 77gr FGMM, it might be an accurate round but it isn't great for animals.  Any .223 or 5.56mm load is light for a deer or hog at 150yds.  Just borrow a gun from your host.  If they are willing to let you hunt their land I'm sure they will let you use a gun.

If any 223 is considered too light I have other rifles to choose from my closet. I just have an AR that LOVES Norma USA match 77 gr HPBT ammo and thought it would be fun to hunt with it.

I'll just bring the 25-06. and maybe bring the AR for fun.

I shoot pigs all the time with 55-62 gr 223
It does a great job
Would probably go with something a little bigger myself on deer
It's all about shot placement in the end though.

I just shot a doe last week about 50 yards away with 64gr .223. She was DRT.

You'll be fine. I've killed a ton of animal with 223. I'm using MK262 this year when I use a AR to deer hunt.

Wouldn't worry about it.  Any decent soft-tip or HP will be fine for deer.

I have the best results for pigs just using FMJ and hitting them in the eye or ear.

ETA:  Non resident hunting licenses are $350, if I recall correctly.  You will also need a hunter's education card, or can use a one time (season) waiver.

I have been using 77grn for several years now.  Works fine.  I shot a hog that was 300+ pounds in the shoulder and he ran about 35 yards.

Dad took a nice 8 point, about 150 lbs, with a remington 55grn soft tip about 4 years ago... crawled about 25 yards and died under a cedar.

Hit a hog in front of the shoulder and it will go down.  I know a guy who used 17 HMR and shot a 250 lb hog right in the ear and it folded up like a cheap lawn chair.
