Mostly just some wicked straight line winds blowing through Dallas. Weather is saying 65 mph, but a friend in Garland said 90.
A few trees down, power is down at my house. Storm spotters are saying a small F1 tornado touched down in Seagoville, minimal damage, no homes damaged, just broken trees. If you're in East Texas, batten down. |

Crap, power is down until 9pm - tomorrow!!!
I knew it was bad when I saw how much the power lines were sagging. FD says they aren't down. Yeah well they ain't good either. The only thing I hadn't figured out was hot water. Got enough generator right now to power up the internet, tv, fridge, lights and fan. We'll swap out to the freezer and window unit AC shortly. Enough hot water for everyone to take a 60 second shower before bed. I guess that will be good enough for school tomorrow. |

We were without power for 3 days with the Icepocalypse back in December. I was lucky enough to have a friend with a generator that didn't lose power so I had a few lights, tv, internet, and heat. I have gas heat so I hot wired the air handler and we were comfy and entertained. A friend asked how I took a shower with no power. What she thought was that if we didn't have power we wouldn't have hot water. We have a gas WH. Not missing a chance to be a smartass I told her that all of my parts were still in the same place and had no trouble getting all very clean. Twice! Now if I was manscaping as clharr was I would cease and desist immediately! I would need to see exactly what was going with that procedure. Mohawk on the sack, now that's funny right there! Jester |

Might have been the same system that hit us in Austin area, or whatever that was. Knocked our power out, pretty well ruined my night. Didn't get power till 0230... Lights flickered a bit in Liberty Hill, almost interrupted me watching yesterday's Jeopardy.

Better add a set of TV rabbit ears to the SHTF must-have list.

Today, the entire neighborhood is down, just in time for college football. Better add a set of TV rabbit ears to the SHTF must-have list.
Reception has been horrible here since it went digital. About all I can get is CBS and that's within 20 miles of downtown. But I can pick up ham radio out of Europe on a long wire antenna in my backyard. Tell me that's not screwed up. |

Yes. The old analog signals were VHF, the new digital signals are UHF. Do you even RF propagation, bro? Quoted:

So the ABC and NBC affiliates designed their digital signals to be more limited than their analog signals? Yes. The old analog signals were VHF, the new digital signals are UHF. Do you even RF propagation, bro? No, I'm saying it sucks. If I was a conspiracy nut, I'd say it was designed to force me into buying cable or dish services to watch formerly free local programming. |

I couldn't see much beyond our back yard, trees blowing all over, house creaking hard. Next day a neighbor's trampoline was out of their yard and aparently by the road, I saw what looked like tin roofing from an old shed or barn, trees split, and my daughter's little plastic playset in the yard was in pieces. Lightning to the east was so frequent that I thought it was the strobes on a utility truck! |
