| So on 01 August I will be starting a new career in Houston. I am done with the government contracting and will be joining a family business. I will miss Germany but I have been away from Texas for too long since I commissioned in 2003. Have temporary lodging set up but wanted to know a good area to look for a house/apt rental in NW Houston (both and outside of the Beltway). Look forward to every one's replies and help. |

There are a lot of nice places up in Cypress if you're looking outside of the beltway. Inside the beltway, the neighborhoods tend to get poorer (less typically suburban and slightly higher crime rate). You can still find a few decent spots, but I would highly recommend a realtor even if you plan to rent the property. Are you planning to buy or rent? Some good resources: |
| I don't like the NW side but I live down in Friendswood SE area. Use www.HAR.com to look, you can find rentals or buying. It's pretty customizable, our realtor told my wife and I to use it when we were looking for a home. It just narrowed down a lot faster what was in our $range and other prerequisites. |
