Just wanted to report on some progress and thank those who helped again. After several months I got the knives out of the DPS evidence room from back in March 2013. I'm soo happy to have them back. The Emerson Commander was a gift from a friend and a long time carry companion. The long knife has a long story and it's nice to have it back. Kel-tec PF9 was also returned. I gave it to the guy who helped spring these out of Austin to cover shipping and his time. This also made shipping out of state much less complicated. |

Quoted: Backstory? Are you the guy who went to the courthouse with knives? Charges were dismissed "In the interest of justice" the DA saying I'd done nothing to warrant the arrest as I had a CHL and a pistol as well so the whole of the section didn't apply including "Illegal" knives. Folks here and on Texas Gun Talk helped with some of the legal fees. These are the knives I had on my person. |

Quoted: Nice to see you posting here again. How's that Wisconsin winter treating you? Did you know there is such thing as an freeze quake where ice creates a ground tremor felt in several counties? We spent three hours trying to find the source of that in and outside the house not knowing what'd happend. Anything above 20 degrees sounds and feels toasty. Shoveling snow up our long driveway so our cars can get out to the road takes about 4 hours until I raise funds for a snow blower. We stay in till the snow plow clears the streets so a bit of cabin fever creeps in. All said though it is easier to keep comfortable keeping battling the cold than battling the heat. |

Coldest winter in 18 years with temps down to -22 cold enough to schools were called off even with clear roads. Average temps around -10 those weeks. I remember it well. I lived there in '10 and '11, was there for a major blizzard in '10. The town of Monroe got 48" of snow in 24 hours, a new state record. During that winter, it'd get down to -30F at coldest at night, almost never going above 0F during the day. They actually declared a State of Emergency and deployed the National Guard.
T'wasn't too hard to beat the cold. Thermal underwear, good boots (that I bloused, got a lot of shit from coworkers for it but I never had issues with wet socks!), and head coverings. Dress in layers. The few times I had to go out at night I wore both a balaclava (to protect my face, nose, and mouth) and one of those hats with ear protectors (for better insulation and to protect the ears). |

So if I understand, the finding was that carrying the fixed blade knife (over the legal limit) was NOT illegal, because you had your CHL & pistol, therefore the section on illegal knives did not apply? |

Unfortunately there was no "finding". The case was dismissed. It means nothing to anyone else. No case law was made. |
