Went up to the Caddo grasslands today (had the unit to myself today) to try and call in some coyotes. Was testing out my diy e-caller. Caller worked fine, called in one to about 350yds, but was not a clear shot, too much grass and brush in front of it...maybe next time.
Good to know they are up there and that my caller works. Now to find some different calls to play on it and then figure out what I want to do when I get a shot at one. Beautiful day for it too! Anyone else up this way (northeast DFW) go out for coyotes? |

I was too cheap for a Foxpro so I just did my own from some plans I saw online (probably about ~40 bucks from Radio Shack). Stole my son's iPod to feed the sounds to it  I'm sure he won't mind.
Seemed to work really well, now I just need to find a better vantage point. Where I was, there are little hills and lots of grass/brush/trees, very limited field of view. Hell, they could've been right next to me and I may not have noticed 
Time to review the aerial maps for the units and see what looks like some good spots. |
I do have a lot of extra vacation days (I get like 5 weeks, wife gets 2...and I don't think she'll let me do a trip to Costa Rica or something by myself) 
Hopefully this year I can manage to use some of it to travel around the state (or maybe even other states for a change) to do some hunting. |

Think I'll be back out this weekend, weather looks to be cooperative again. |
