Soft opening today.....

Anyone else go? (kinda surprised no one has posted about it)

Didn't hear about it would have gone.

Awesome.  I have been waiting for them to open!

There were quite a few people there when I went during the day. The email notification I received stated the official opening day will be Friday, 12/6.

Im to poor to go.

How expensive is it for a non member?
11/28/2013 11:59:49 AM EDT
[#6]
I think 20 bucks to shoot.  What I save on tolls and gas will help lessen the blow.  Not many indoor 100 yard ranges around.
11/28/2013 12:19:48 PM EDT
[#7]
Any pictures?  How many 100yd lanes do they have?
11/28/2013 1:14:01 PM EDT
[#8]
I didn't take any pictures, sorry.

I thought I overheard one of the employees state there are 2 100-yd rifle lanes. (on the backside of the handgun stop) Only the handgun lanes were open yesterday. The rifles lanes "aren't ready yet, but will be available for the public opening on the 6th."
11/28/2013 5:40:59 PM EDT
[#9]
My buddy is a member. He offered me some free passes but I told him he should save them.
I'll make it over there eventually.  The indoor 100 yd range is the only thing that interests me.

I could give a rats ass a or fine dining etc. At a range.

4 100 yrd Rifle bays, open Friday Dec 6 also Grand opening day.

Also they allow shotgun in pistol bay, no steel or slugs.

NFA stuff not in yet, don't know when.  I think they will get suppressors first to sell
11/29/2013 8:06:27 PM EDT
[#11]
Thanks for clarification on the number of rifle bays. I wasn't 100% certain.

The handgun bays do allow non-steel shot/non-slug shotgun, and some "other" calibers such as 5.7. (w00t!)

I always disliked that BT never provided/upgraded to allow shotgun shooting, and had always visited DFW Gun Club for this aspect. (until it was turned into a smoldering pile by someone's carelessness.    )
11/29/2013 8:25:17 PM EDT

Will they let you shoot private owned machine guns?
11/29/2013 8:34:22 PM EDT

Didn't know they had 100yrd rifle wonder if fmj is g2g. If so I may have a new place to shoot as no outdoor ranges allow fmj which sucks when I have mostly milsurps and ammo.

Seems like no AP, steel core, tracer, lead, or anything larger than 50bmg.

Glad it's open, just wish they had more lanes for rifle.  I plan on going in a few months after the crowds die down.  $20 for an hr isn't bad.  I'm in McKinney, and drove to Sanger for outside range - Magnum Sports Center.  I'll save $20 just in gas alone.

They posted on fmj is g2g which makes me happy I can finally shoot my fmj again. The $20hr thing sucks I usually go for a couple hours.

Exactly.  If you are going to charge by the hour, you had better deliver shooting amenities that nobody else can deliver - and a restaurant?  There are 9-10 top notch restaurants within 10 minutes of that location - why would I pay $7500 initially and $200/month just to be able to eat at the range?

Did Bullet Trap do something stupid?  Other than their lowest-common-denominator rules I mean?  I haven't shot there in forever because they kept adding rules until there was no point in me going; but it used to be a decent place for new shooters circa 2002 or so,

Also VIP members have 6 private bays and can shoot 24 hrs a day per emp.  Still too much for my liking though.  That will but a lot of guns and ammo, lol

Never heard the concept of hiring a chef for an indoor range.  However, that tends to be the practice for high end hunting/fishing lodges.  Am I missing something?  What's next, strippers?

Keep in mind that to actually use their restaurant - you have to be a VIP Member (like a Country Club member), which is $7.5k initially + $200 monthly + cost of the food billed to you monthly.

GPSR is opened.  Never closed.  You can call them to verify or just go there.  They have allowed over .300 caliber again now that the berms are higher.  Shotgun and pistol are also allowed back on the rifle range.

went with a buddy this past Sat night and here are my first impressions.

1) Wow, this place sure is fancy...and you'll be paying out the teeth for all the fanciness

2) Wow, this place sure is fancy...and those prices, well, it'll make a nice retail store when the club goes under bc no one wants to pay those prices

3) Wow, this place sure is fancy...and those prices...yeah...you get the idea....

though if you're looking for a kel tec ksg, they definitely had them in stock. my buddy saw one on the wall and was like, "look! they have a TWO ksg in stock for $839.99"...and i said "yeah, turn around, they have a dozen more on the wall for the same price"...

$7,500 initiation fee, $2,400 a year in membership fees.

They are going after the market that SGC has pioneered in the handgun shoot sector. But they seem to miss the mark.

SGC has a great staff, with reasonable range rules (for example drawing from holster or shooting from other than standing positions is allowed with only a reasonably priced qualification session).

These clones that take only one parts of the SGC experience, mostly the fancy upper level memberships, and nice facility. Without looking at the other things that make SGC popular.

Yes, select fire appears to be good to go. It's not too far off for my *free* select fire 2 mag dump range session available to members on their birthday. (FGC provides the firearm of choice I believe, but not sure whether that's inclusive of ammo though. )

The dinning facilities are a wait and see aspect. In a previouos life I spent many years in that industry. My wife still does, and things can be extremely hit or miss. (Ha! pun intended ) I haven't seen a menu or price point laid out, so once that's available a better understanding of the expectations can be made.  The dinning room itself looked nice. Very lodge like with the big leather chairs, and some "lounge" aspect thrown in. (but not like bottle service at the local club lounge) Only 20 or so tables in the main area that I counted during the brief stroll through the room. The "cigar lounge" was smaller than I would have expected. I don't know Frisco's laws regarding smoking, so that may have something to do with that aspect.

This reminds me...I need to reach out to the Metroplex's restaurateurs we know, and inquire about FGC's restaurant. (specifically the noted Chef.) I'll agree that the "fine dining" aspect is a thought provoking idea, but I just don't see the customer base being big enough to keep something of that caliber (Ha! another pun....heh ) running for very long. I mean, although most of the male dinning customers probably won't mind the continuous muffled pops of gunfire, a certain volume of female customers would probably prefer a dining experience with less distractions. I know, I know, most of the wives of forum members here could probably care less, but I'm just saying that not every avid shooter has a spouse that's as supportive. Especially if the place is trying to charge $30 -$40+ for a (better be Prime) piece of cow flesh.

ETA : Oh, and for those looking for pics, seems local ABC affiliate has spotlighted the opening a couple of times now.

WFAA Video/Story

Here's a link to a video from their morning show (?) video regarding Friday's opening. I had to watch it with no volume, so I don't know what was/was not said, but the AR with pink furniture on the handgun range @ ~ 3:45 mins is pretty darn funny considering someone thought that would be an excellent choice for the live video shoot.

I went on Black Friday. It's nice...very nice...and very expensive. Range rules said no rapid fire, shots every 2 seconds, except double taps are allowed

Tons of KSGs for $840 in all colors. Supposed to have an HK store; I saw HK pistols but not much else.

I wasnt planning on shooting and had to buy 2 boxes of .40S&W for $19 a piece...Thats a shit load for rounds when I reload them. They didnt say anything about my suppressed USP (just happened to have it in the truck), or they didnt see it, or didnt know it was an NFA item, meh.

I was a guest of my cousin who is a member, I would like to try out the 100 yd range next time though. I'm still personnaly a fan of outdoor, flat ranges and tactical bays. Shooting paper from a static position is boooooring. I'm also not a member of high society, just a lowly Army Captain with lots of just a few guns.

I don't have children and my wife is not consistent with her range visits so those figures aren't applicable to me.

If you have a ball and chain, kids, only want to shoot out to 100 yards, indoors, and have the money to spend then it's a good deal for you.

Think of a golf country club setting.

Same family social ammenities and fine dining

It is not meant to be for everybody, as country clubs are not.

The thing is, I would like to know I am shooting next to reasonably responsible people and not a bunch of gang bangers.

I am too far away in Houston but we have a 'similar' new range here that fills the bill.  (no chef though) and yes I eat more than I shoot

Just for the reason it's at least 100yrds and allows fmj and close IDE go fairly often I have lots of surplus and no where to shoot it I want the old McKinney range back that place was great but that ain't gonna happen. I don't know of anyone with land and don't want to drive to some middle of no where range that allows fmj.

Went this morning to sight in one rifle and check the zero on another.  The range and shop is very, very nice.  Definitely the nicest ive ever been to.  Everyone very friendly and lots of quality guns.  Prices didnt seem that bad on guns and accessories.  The rifle range is nice but theres no sandbags or rifle rests so make sure to bring your own.  Maybe because they're so new.

So here's the kicker.  I overheard that the rifle range fee is going to be $35/hr.  The $20/hr is just an introductory promotion.  Thats fairly steep considering i easily shoot 2 hours per trip.

The way i figure it, if its bad weather (like today), windy, or im shooting expensive firearms I wouldnt mind paying for FGC.  If its a nice day and Im not worried about my guns getting stolen, Ill probably just head to Garland or Elm Fork.
