I've been working on this iOS (iPhone/iPad) app on/off for a year now. It's a combination weapon catalog and gun-related utility app. I haven't been able to finish it because of my crappy schedule during this deployment.
I just finished my mid-tour and I was actually able to get my app approved/published by Apple (version 1.0 at least) Here's the link:Gun Locker I'm not the best at marketing, but I've created a blogspot for more info: Gun Locker blog The app is $3, but I've got 10 promo codes I can give out. I just need an email/pm to send one to you. It's a 1.0 app, so it might be a little rough. I'm always looking for input and suggestions though. -Jacob |

Congrats on the app. I also have done iPhone / iPad dev in the past. It is a great way to pass time and there is such a feeling of accomplishment after you finish it. I recommend making 2 versions, one that is paid and one that has ads. I found that although ads suck for the user, you make more money with them then you will ever make from the app purchases. I'd love to take a look at your app ETA: does it transfer any data out side of the iPhone/iPad? |

All the data is saved on the phone, nothing is transferred across the wire.
There is also a Passcode you can set within the app (separate from the main phone Passcode ) I plan on adding a Shot Timer to the utilities, so I'll probably make a free version (w/ ads) that doesn't contain the Shot Timer or the Ballistics. I honestly didn't go the ad-route at first because I couldn't fit all I wanted to into the UI with the ads on the screen. Wasn't so forward thinking on my part. -Jacob |

i looked at the blog. downloading now. I'll give you 3 dollars if you promise to keep working on it!
Edit: i really like this. a lot. especially keeping track of mags, guns, ammo, maintenance etc. can't wait to get home and go through all my shit and input it. Great app. I'll PM if I find any bugs tomorrow. |

It's just a passcode to access the data.
There is function (that is currently off) that if you enter the passcode wrong 3 times it will wipe out all the data. I haven't turned that feature on though because it seems dangerous to do on an app people won't be using everyday (unlike the separate passcode on their phone). In the next update I will turn on that feature (that you can enable/disable) and probably add a huge disclaimer for it. Hope that makes sense. -Jacob |

All in all a good app. Might I suggest a way to add multiple calibers/barrels to a single firearm. Ex., an AR-15 that has three different uppers in three different calibers and lengths. I know there are notes, and that's where I've got that info stored, but it's just not as pretty there.

I was listening to Homework Houston on 700 KSEV yesterday about Verizon's privacy policy (all of the 4 major cell phone companies have similar policies).
I would be hesitant to put any information I didn't want sold on my smart phone. Let me see if I can find a link to the program |
|
As I understand, the cell phone companies are accessing your internet browsing and where you get location services from (GPS). They then can sell this info to ad companies, much like google/bing sells your browsing history.
Since the only connection I make to the internet is to get a METAR feed for weather, I doubt much could be extrapolated from this. For other apps, such as banking, the app would be connecting to your bank encrypted through a SSL socket. The cell company would not be able to "view" inside these encrypted packets, just that you have made a connection to https://chase.com for example. Smarter people will probably jump in to correct me, but that is my understanding. -Jacob |

Quoted: "Unreadable" as in the file actually can't be opened, or the format of the file is actually not ideal (fields in the wrong order)? -Jacob Actually, I just tried it on my iPhone and laptop with Excel, and it worked great. Open Office seemed confused when I tried it on my other computer last night. It opened but was all out of order. Looks like an issue on my end. ETA: I really like being able to add a photo of each gun to the inventory. If I were to add something then I would add a field for optics and another for accessories. |

Downloaded to my iPod Touch. No cell service just a device. I like it. Good app.
Thanks! Can you get it such that the pictures you take of your guns in the app also sync to the photo album on the device? They're just in the app as of now. Also, I have the pin code turned on, and when I just open the app from my home screen, it doesn't ask me for the pin and just opens up. But if I'm already in the App and I get out of it to do something else, then open it again, it asks for the pin. Should ask for a pin anytime its opened. |

Syncing to the iPhone photo album would rock. Also, a couple bugs I've found. I can't export ammo, which means I also can't export all. Guns and mags works great, but if I try the other two, it boots me out of the app. Also, sometimes I add something, then later want to look at it and it doesn't show up. For example, I added 1500 rounds of 5.56. I went to update the amount after a range trip, and it shows that I have 2000 rounds of 5.56. But when I click through to the manufacturers list, the manufacturer with 500 rounds is there, but the one with 1500 rounds isn't. This has also happened to me with magazines. The only way to get all my info back to correct is to delete everything in the app, and start over. This is where tying it to the photo album helps, since I was stupid and took pictures of my guns within the app instead of taking them and then uploading them.

I just updated the app with the fixes for the passcode, exporting Ammo and syncing Weapon Photos to the Photo Album.
I can't seem to reproduce the random ammo saving/updating problem, although someone mentioned that killing the app and restarting it fixed the problem. I'm still looking into it obviously. Hopefully I can nail down what is causing it so I post the App to the 'General Discussion' section. -Jacob |
