There is Katy area consists of highway 6 following IH10 west to the Katy City Limits. I would recommend skipping that and moving directly into The Katy City Limits. Small town feel (quick response from city services), yet close enough to the big city.
Also I think Katy Police Dept. is hiring for a Dispatcher. Ill confirm with my wife who works there, but I'm pretty sure there is an opening currently. If anyone is looking for a job that is. |

I liked Katy when it was surrounded by thousands of acres of rice full of ducks and geese. It was a small town then it is just part of Houston to me now.
You could do worse than live in Katy . Speaking of cops in Katy. Those speed limits mean what they say there. School district is supposed to be good. |

Katy is good around the Cinco Ranch area or in Katy. I would also tell them to look in Richmond neighborhoods of, Long Meadow Farms, Bella Terra, around those areas, save a bunch of money in school taxes with some really exceptional schools. I live in the Richmond area and its really starting to build up. My wife and I have been out there for almost 8 years and we bought our house out there for just over 140K. Values have gone up since then, but the market is still low. Seeing plenty of homes up for sale in the area and some are selling quite quickly. Still seeing building going on in Long Meadow Farms, but it does seem to be on the higher end side of things. Tax rates out there are lower than Cinco/Katy, but if they are starting a family Cinco/Katy for the school districts. Out in Richmond we have the flagship Kroger that has been there for 2-3 years, just put in the new Stadium Palladium movie theater and soon will see shopping and restaurants start moving in. Building the new toll road right now and it is easy 10 minutes to Sugar Land and 10 minutes to Katy & I-10. And in Pecan Grove there is the Swinging Door BBQ restaurant which isnt too shabby either. Still some farm land out there, but its shrinking pretty quick. I'm a tad depressed about that. Overall I cannot complain, I like it out there. |

Quoted: Can 160k buy a house there? Yup... plenty of houses. Here's an example. |
|
I live in Harris County, between Katy and Houston. 160k may be tight for a house and homes are in demand and on the market a short time. Along Fry and Mason roads, behind all the urban clutter of WalMart, Taco Bell, cell phone shops etc. modest homes exist in that price range north of I10, the Katy Freeway. Katy independent school district is good but growing fast with the demand.
Ask around to see where Katy got it's name. A long time resident will know. Hint; it was a person's name. It is at the outer limit for driving to Houston on a regular basis but still a popular and growing Houston bedroom community. Anyhow, welcome. |

Alief Magee was that town's namesake, changed from Dairy, TX in 1897.... And now look at it.... Sorry, went all shiny red ball there...
ETA, I was pretty sure that Katy got it's name from the MKT railroad... |

Now houses are everywhere. |
| I also live in Katy. South of I-10 is the place to be if they want the typical suburban home. Old Katy can provide some older homes with land, but $160,000 is stretching it most places in Katy. Get on HAR.com as any home listed in the MLS is on there. A great search engine for all things real estate in houston. |

Not sure if every metro area has a HAR type site, but HAR is fabulous for Houston. My wife kills time on there like I do on Arfcom. |

There is nothing small town about Katy. You would need to go further out. I went into the post office the other day, and only had to stand in line behind one woman. No illegals, no Shaquitas with half a dozen crotchfruit in tow. It's still got some small town charm. |
