| Does anyone have any experience building one or living in one? Are they better than a conventional house? |

Originally build to evade the tax man, they became quite popular.
As soon as the tax man got wise, he started taxing them like a normal home. I have helped build a few and have friends who live in them. The sky is the limit as to what you can do with them with the wide open free spans inside the metal structure. Allot of questions to ask before you start. Is it going to be full time residense? Is it going to contain partial workshop. What are you going to do in the workshop-flames smoke and such. Do you want it two story inside-wall height. I would reccoment spray foam insulation against the structure as it make it like living in an igloo cooler. Take your time and plan it out. there are quite a few site to look at concerning this and they have great design ideas. |

Thanks for the info, i was thinking single story maybe 3 br 2.5 bath or so with approximately two car garage as the "barn" part where i can park and tinker with things. Right now im looking for about five or so acres in the county where i can build a range and not have to deal with city bs and hoa's. I hear they are very well insulated making the enerfy cost low all year round. |

| A friend of mine lived in one years ago and loved it, right up until the point where it burned down and he found out his partner did not pay their insurance! Friend was out of state when the partner was there and the mysterious fire started (likely his negligence). My friend found out afterwards when he went to file the insurance claim that the partner never paid the premium and pocketed the money! They operated a paintball field on this property. |
