Man, what a beating.  Took my class in November, just went to "approved" today .  Evidently I had an arrest in 2000 they were concerned about (fresh out of college, about to ship to the Army, I was a little...wild).  I don't remember what I was charged with, but I do remember what I did (was just stupidity really, nothing bad).  I remember standing in front of the judge and he said what my fine would be, and or how much time I could serve if I couldn't pay the fine.  I told the judge:

"Your honor, I am fresh out of A&M, don't have a job, and have enlisted in the Army to pay off my school.  I'm supposed to ship out in two weeks."

He said dismissed and let me go.  Now I go for my CHL and *somehow* the DPS still see's this arrest and wants court records.  I go back to Brazos county and nobody has any record of anything.  Not the city, the county, or the court.  So I get three certified letters of "no records found" and get my CHL.

I'm slightly confused by the "shall issue" part if I am held up for something 13y old that there are no records of.

Guess it doesn't matter though, CHL is issued.

It is "shall issue" if you meet the eligibility requirements.  Once you established the arrest did not result in an ineligibility, then DPS shall issue the license, and they did.

So, what have you decided to carry?

well you didn't say that the arrest was expunged, you just said the charges were dismissed..my understanding is that this is not the same thing.

Did you list the arrest on your CHL Application?
I put my app in Oct. Got my CHL in Jan. I also had an arrest but mine was expunged, it occurred around 15 years ago...that is what held mine up... I think if you have an arrest then it goes to a special section for review at txdps... if you don't have any arrests it probably just gets the 'fast track'

Yup, listed on my App.  And I had no clue there were no records of it until I had to go on this expedition.  Which is cool, I always thought it was part of my record, but now I have 3 letters proving it isn't ; and a CHL to boot.
