Wanted to get this on the web so Googles Search function can find it

I didn't fall for it as it seemed too good to be true.

502-230-1265 / 5022301265 is the phone number. Guy claims to be Chris Miller. Seller name on Texasguntrader is c.miller44 email is [email protected]

Deal was for $1400 for a Beretta 682 e-gold. I always ask for higher resolution pictures and for specific pictures of certain spots on the gun to see if the person even has the firearm. This stuff is running rampent on Texas Gun Trader. This is the add here: http://texasguntrader.com/index.php?a=2&b=312213

I was skeptical because 1. he says he's in mineral wells, but has a Kentucky Phone number, that's ok.. but usually its a major city phone number. 2. he wouldn't send me a text picture of the firearm and then his texts were rather short and not exactly perfect grammar. Well sometimes old timers have trouble typing on phones so I ignored and asked him to provide additional pictures / information. He just sent me some 23 kb stock photos and they had a perfect white background, a white background is not easy to accomplish unless you're ripping images off somewhere else.

Anyways after googling his name / phone number i came across a thread http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/thread/1333598157/1360104463/Almost+6+grands+worth+of+airgun+going+for+%242k

I decide to just ignore him, then randomly today I get a call from phone number 502-509-5460 / 5025095460 That's Louisville kentucky for those of you that don't know. I don't EVER deal with ANYONE from Kentucky. Not by choice, i just don't have interactions with folks in that neck of the woods. This person left a voicemail, it was in broken chinese or korean (I'll ask a buddy to decipher later)

Debating calling the FBI internet fraud department tomorrow to report.

This guy must have been trying hard if they were trying to call from another number. Not sure what their plan was if I picked up lol.

It would have never been an issue anyways since I absolutely refuse to buy/sell firearms unless it's Face to Face transactions. In that other thread some guy at the end mentions the guy asks to meet but looks for a $500 deposit. DO NOT ever do that. If a deal is too good to be true it probably is.

Now this is funny, this guy is using pictures from gunstar.uk

I contacted some guy about a Daniel Defense Ar15.. think it was a ddm4 v4? something like that... he wanted like $1,200 for it.. he was out of kentucky based on the ad... then he said later he was out of some other state... 99.9% sure it was a scam...emailed him twice under two different accounts and got a replay saying he was from two different states... did get an address..but maybe he works in the post office and can swipe the mail before delivery...not sure...but why anyone would sell for less than normal in an above normal market is beyond me...

he wanted a postal money order...not sure if those can be scammed other than taking the money and not sending a rifle...I decided it wasn't worth the risk..the two different states thing was a bit much... I think he even posted on texasguntrader!

stick with FTF

That sucks. I have heard alot about scammers on texas gun trader. But I have never been scammed. Bought and sold plenty off the site. Never had a problem, met some good people off the site too.

TGT really needs to implement a new check system. Do a better job of weeding out the scammers. Im not sure what they could do because Im not IT guy, but something needs to be done. Also, I have only dealt face to face. Always had a buddy with me who was armed watching out. You gotta protect yourself, and like the OP said, if it sounds too good to be true, chances are it is.

You never know who you will meet online. I have sold scopes, mags, parts, pistols, shotguns, rifles, a bunch of stuff on that site. Traded a few things as well, never did I go unprotected or alone except once. It was an old man, cool ass old man, forgot his name though. We just traded pistols. You just gotta cover your ass pretty much. That applies to everything, but so many people get lazy or comfortable, and thats when they get screwed. I always go into ANY and EVERY deal with distrust. People have to win me over so to speak. Same with shops.

Full Armor Firearms has lost my business because of a nonchalant attitude to improperly installing some parts on my rifle. It sucks because these guys were supposed to be "friends". But, one thing my paw always taught me, you find your true friends when money and pussy is involved.

Sookie that is par for the course!

This guys asian, probably lives in China. (not hard to tell from the voicemail they left me) In the other thread you can see people talk about Richardson, etc, but who knows. I did file a complaint with the FBI. Should probably contact local law enforcement as well.

I would have never agreed to meet anywhere but in person for a face to face, cash only transaction. That usually weeds out the scammers. Money Orders can be faked as well, so if they want to use a money order, i tell them were meeting in a bank parking lot and they are walking in and cashing their own money orders for cash and handing me the cash.

WHAT I DO NOT LIKE, is that Texas Gun Trader includes your IP address from the site in the messages. Now of course it's easy to get around if you use a proxy, but i think that's information they should keep private. It doesn't really matter as I have rolling IP address's and can get a new one whenever I like.

At the very least TGT should get a forum going and user generated feedback and start charging for every add, even then it wont weed them all out. Was debating dropping this guys information on one of the friendly blackhat websites to let them have fun with him.

GUARANTEED this guy is out of Asia. I read about something similar to this a couple months back. He either has someone helping him over here in the states who receieves the money or he somehow does it all from over there. Most likely someone helping him here but because all the contact is through him the LE involved wont be able to touch him, even if they wanted to, and thats a big if with online/mail fraud.
