I just picked up a Ruger American in .30-06 a couple of weeks ago. It comes with Weaver bases installed, Weaver #46. I'd prefer to not spend a large amount on this, stuff I can get from a local big box or order from Midway USA. I'd like to also stay with the popular (classic?) 3-9X in magnification. The whole package in the $250-$350 range.

| Weaver bases and rings are fine, good stuff. For your price range look on Midway for Leupold or Nikon glass. I got a a Nikon ProStaff 4-12X from Midway on sale for $175. Great scope at a $75 discount. They run sales on optics all the time, just keep an eye out for 'em. |

I did go to Bass Pro since it so close, but their prices on rings seemed to be double what Brownells or Midway USA charges me with my FFL discount. They also have a lot of nice looking scopes, but the tags just say "3-9x 40mm" with no other description or model number for the scope. mm |
