I'm from Southeast Texas too.... Big city of Kirbyville... Holy CRAP! Most people from East Texas don't even know there is a Kirbyville! I once hailed from the thriving suburban city of Call (a bustling hamlet outside of magnificent Kirbyville) No really I graduated in 1989 and ran like hell to get away only to realize I miss the small town. |

Southeast Texas is South of Houston (i.e. Gulf coast) in my book. Anything East of the line between Houston and Sherman is 'East Texas" to me. Sugarland, Galveston, Victoria, Corpus... that's SE Texas in my book. South of Nacogdoches and east of 59 to Houston, then 45 to the coast. South of Houston is south Texas. Corpus is definitely south Texas, hell, they have mesquite trees and cactus. |
| I say I am from Southeast Texas cause thats how all the local TV stations identify the area. Orange , Beaumont and Port Authur is considered the Golden Triangle area which is located in Southeast Texas. Anything south of Galveston is considered south Texas. Our local classifieds website is even called Southeasttexas . com and 90% of the transactions take place in the Beaumont and surrounding areas. True we are east Texas , but the southeast portion of east Texas :) |

Thats wrong in so many ways... ![]() well it's further South and almost as far East....Beaumont is not South of half of the state, so how is it "SouthEast"? My version of "East Texas" is at least culturally homongenous, more or less. It makes at least as much sense as yours. In short... pine trees and swamp? East Texas. Gulf coast? Southeast Texas. Rio Grande nearby? Southwest Texas. West of the Hill Country, West Texas. The Hill Country is the Hill Country, Central Texas is Central Texas, the Panhandle is the Panhandle. My grandfather's family is from what you call "Southeast Texas", but they always called it "East Texas". Go figure.... |

I can find mesquite trees and retama in Bryan, but that doesn't make it South Texas..... ETA: not that it really matters anyway- I just think of "Southeast Texas" as the East part of South Texas, you think of it as the South part of East Texas. We're both right... |
