So Oklahoma just went to Open Carry if I read correctly...When will we go this route?
I certainly wouldn't be opposed.

In before someone posts how open carry is a bad idea.

Convince Alice Tripp and we can probably have it next session.

We came close last session.  Closer than most realise.  It just never got passed the calendaring comity.  2013 we have another chance.

TSRA won't push, nor will the NRA though.  It would need to be outside those groups. I've contacted my reps.  They have no interest in pushing open carry or several other proposals.  I may try again with the OK example in a week.

Won't happen.  We need to replace a few folks before it gets tabled again with the TSRA.

I'm torn about the way OK did it. You can only carry open if you have a CHL (or whatever they call it). Part of me says good idea, but realistically I think it'd be like the helmet law here. (there are provisions allowing a rider to not where a helmet, but requirements must be met first.)

I'm for it but I really want campus carry passed.

What is so great about open carry as opposed to concealed carry, other then letting everyone see you have a gun?

I live out in the sticks and don't have a CHL.

I won't have to buy bigger shirts to hide my gun as I keep getting fatter in my old age.

Beacuse of the 2nd ammendment? Because it's our God given right? Because is how our forefathers did it?

In the state of Texas the NRA lets the TSRA run things, unless you get anti-gun bills starting up like in Kommiefornia. It is time WE that mean all of us start leaning on the TSRA to support open carry. The reason TSRA did not back it last year was TSRA was not consulted on the bill and was not asked to help push it. If WE the members of TSRA leaning on TSRA we can get this through.

No, she needs to decide to have the TSRA push for it.  Plain and simple, the votes will be there if the TSRA makes it the #1 priority.

Yes but did you see the places you can't carry... Any place that post a no weapons sign. All it has to say.

I'd prefer concealed carry on campus to be the priority next session, but I'd support open carry as well.

Code Maroon (campus lockdown) at A&M this week because a man in his late 40's was spotted near a parking garage with a wood handled gun in his wasteland. Main campus on lockdown for several hours while nothing was found. Sounds like a socer mom spotted a CHL holder who flashed while getting out of his vehicle near campus.

Alice has said that the parking lot bill last session and campus carry this session are job one for TSRA. If someone else wants to carry the water for open carry they will support them until campus carry is secure.

Some of the open carry laws go back to the days of the Carpetbagger Yankees from the 1860's after the Civil war.

I would love to have the option for open carry, don't know if I would but it would be nice.

I would love open carry to be legal.  I would still coinceal most of the time, but to be able to open carry every now and then and actually carry a larger gun sometimes would be nice.

We would have had it last session if all the whiners on this forum had joined us and contacted the TSRA and their representatives.  Instead we had self-proclaimed "second amendment supporters" telling us that, "open carry is a right I don't want."

I am more for constitutional carry like Arizona.

While I would still conceal carry most of the time, there are times when I think it would be a good deterrent. A lot of times I drive back and forth between CStat and SA, or to San Marcos for drill, work, family, etc and it would be nice to wear OWB not concealed, just so I don't get those weirdos bugging you at odd night time hours at gas stations and late at night in mcdonalds.

No. Alice Tripp said they main push was to get the parking lot and campus carry bills passed. She said they would support any open carry bills presented but they would not in her words "carry the water" for such a bill. Now would be the time to ask TSRA for support but they have already stated that campus carry is the number one issue for this session.

We get one or two pro gun items per session. There are two "biggies" up this time around Campus Carry and Open Carry. We'll get one, most likely Campus Carry this time around. Personally, I'd like to see them start talking about No Permit carry.....Vermont/Alaska style. We also need to start working on reforming our knife laws.

The problem with reforming any laws is getting a group together to petition enough to cause  the subject to rise above everything else.  We also need to reform our liquor laws.
