Quoted: Really? I was thinking about bringing the misses here for a weekend getaway. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Weekend getaway, but stay in the tourist areas. Other areas are really not bad ...welll...I only know the redlight districts, and I would't go there alone not packing. |

Sounds fine then. Fly in, cab downtown, riverwalk / area for the weekend, cab out, fly home After dark I would not walk far from the Riverwalk or streets near the Alamo. If you find yourself away from there it is probably worth taking a taxi back to your hotel. San Antonio isn't really a bad place, but it does have its share of drug/gang violence and general thuggery and robberies... this kind of advice would go for any big city, it is just better safe than sorry. |

What are you doing for lunch today? I'm off. I love the Texas hospitality! I would love to meet for lunch, but i will be in meetings from 8:30 - 2:00. Then gotta fly from SAT to Love field, go to another meeting, go to DFW, and catching a 9:55 flight back to Nashville. But thank you for the invite. |

Quoted: wish i was on the riverwalk right now! stop and have an expensive beer at the menger hotel bar and check out all the pictures and assorted shit they have there from teddy roosevelt If the wifey isn't with you, highly suggest any outdoor table not too close to thepassersbys, get some fine Tx Gulf shrimp, cold beer, and just watch some of our finest TX women walk onby! People watchingwhile enjoying a drink and food is a great thing to do on the Riverwalk! |

It's not only nighttime you have to worry about. We've had shady people blatantly follow us after telling them we won't give them money. Just be aware of your surroundings and you should do fine. If you feel like Mexican food try la paloma on the riverwalk or take a cab to mi tierra.
ETA: nevermind. I see you've already come and gone.

In case you didn't know, the Alamo that you went to see is only the chapel. The actual structure was much bigger but has almost all been torn down. |

Don't wander outside the tourist areas unless you are packing... This is inaccurate statement in my opinion. I live in the area and its not dangerous. There are always possibilities of course, but I think the worst thing would be a bum trying to get some change. With that said, I would still have my CCW, but odds are your going to be fine here. This is not Houston. |

This is not Houston. Even here in Austin the gang bangers will occasionally mug people down in the 6th St district who wander away from view of others. They know that most people who are frequenting the drinking establishments will be disarmed due to the laws that prohibit carry in TABC 51% establishments. Does it happen a lot? No. Is Austin Houston? No... But it does happen. Better safe than sorry. Unless I'm actually going into a 51% establishment or other prohibited place I am always carrying. |
