Just moved to TX from GA, and I have a GA CHL permit. I'm assuming that I will have to go through the normal TX process (Class, background check, etc.) to obtain my permit. Is there a waiting period or anything else I should be aware of? |

You can use your Georgia permit until it expires because Texas honors reciprocity in Georgia and I believe any state in the US.
When it comes time for you to expire, I would start the process 90 days before you expire just to make sure you dont go without. I did the same thing since I had a Virginia CHL. I took the Texas CHL class 90 days before my Virginia license expired and got the Texas CHL in 30 days, which ended up coming faster than my friends who submitted at the same time. I guess the difference was, i am military. So to answer your question about the background check and class, yes, 10 hours of fun.

But to answer your questions, yes, you have to go through the full process to obtain a Texas CHL. There is no waiting period as long as your intent is to establish residency here. |

Quoted: Quoted: Wishful thinking. ;)You can use your Georgia permit until it expires because Texas honors reciprocity in Georgia and I believe any state in the US. I think I will go ahead and get my TX CHL once I get my car registered and get my TX DL. I was hoping to avoid the class being a Ga permit holder, but that is wishful thinking in itself apparently. ![]() |
