As a weather noob I check the 7 day forecast in DFW almost daily.  We have yet to have cold weather or a good freeze yet.  We are at the end of Jan and the 7 day forecast claims 60's and 70's this week.

Are we going to get any winter weather?

Do you figure we are going to stay at these temps through the rest of winter?

No. We will get at least one day of ice or snow before it's all over like we usually do. Even in the mildest of winters we will get a day or so. A week of belowing freezing would help with the bug situation this summer though.

Tomorrow I'll consult my co-worker, a former meteorologist... or I'll try to find a Farmer's Almanac... BTW, when is Groundhog's Day?

It snowed in October*, what else were you looking for?

2010 it snowed in March too.

* Snow = hail so heavy that it is still formed in drifts the next day at noon.

This year is unusually warmer than normal.  I wonder if there is any carry-over from last extremely fricking hot summer?

It snowed Easter here in Dallas 4-5 years ago. I remember sitting down to eat around the table only to have everyone run outside to watch it snow. Last freeze here in DFW is about St Patricks Day, usually. By Valentines Day, usually the weather really starts to warm up. The sun is as strong as it is in mid October by then and can get warm quick.

Steve MacCaulay(sp) from Channel 8, the only weather dude worth a damn in Dallas said this evening he thought we might be in for one of his McFarland Signature blasts in a couple weeks. Last year he was the weatherman that predicted the Ice Apocalypse weeks ahead of time.

According to Brad Barton at WBAP we may get a dose of "Stockshow weather" friday and saturday. That usually means some type of ice.

Be thankful for such a mild winter so far. These rains and warmer temps have helped the land and animals recover from the horrific heat and lack of precipitation during the spring and summer.

Jumanji huh? I haven't seen Robin Williams yet. That article makes sense in some cases and none in others. The deer population is down due to the drought many died off this summer and many does had trouble entering estrous due to malnutrition. I'm sure the insects will be a problem for sure. Black bears? Sure TX has black bear but not much.

Just more doom and gloom from our media.

DFW is officially out of drought conditions according to the US Drought Monitor.  Other parts of the state aren't so lucky.

Down here in the Austin area we just need some RAIN...  The little bit we've gotten in December and January has only kept the drought from getting worse, no progress on catching back up to normal yet...

We've had just one night where the temps got below freezing and the rest of the forecast calls for warm weather.  RAIN is included in there so that's awesome but we are going to have a lot of BUGS this summer
