Anyone else in the DFW area having problems with scorpions? I am in Kaufman County, on 5 acres (semi Rural area), and have been over run with them this year. I am used to seeing a couple a month in my laundry room, but recently have killed one in my shower, and now one in my bath tub. They have been in my pool (got stung), my kitchen, and the outside "closet" my tankless water heater is in. I tried to spread Diatomacious (sp) earth in the attic, but I guess it hasn't worked this year. I have been here 8 years, and this is the worst yet for these things. I expect them outside due to all the trees I have but I really don't want to step on one on my trips to the bathroom at night (yeah I;m old). |
Haven't seen any but got stung by one between the two smallest toes on my left foot. (or it was a wasp sitting on my patio at 2 a.m. that pulled a houdini) I've been stung by lots of things before, but I dropped to the ground like a little school girl on this one.

Cute and fun little critters.
They actually eat roaches which is a rarity. Insecticide is extremely effective on them. They also have problems with high humidity and fungal diseases. The drought and heat has brought them out. You just have to be gentle and careful when handling them. They don't sting if you don't step on them or piss them off. They are good eating too. Yum yum. |

I'm seeing the same thing you are here in south Hunt County by Tawakoni. We've been here two years this past April, rural, on 1.25 acres, heavily treed. Our first year here, we saw/killed only a couple outside. Last year, they increased some, but we killed maybe five inside, a dozen outside. This year, they've been rampant! Killed probably 50 outside, 20 or more inside, five of those carrying babies on their back or pregnant. I spray Malathion heavily around the base of the house, garage, and yard, chaulked all doors/windows, sealed all the weep holes in the bricks with nylon scouring pads, and we still find one in the house at least once a week. I killed two outside just last night when I was bringing in our Doberman.......At least they smash easily when stepped on! |

Actually, if I find them, they don't last long enough for me to think about handling them. We're just a few miles west of DFW airport, and we kill a handful a year. My wife has been stung and says it's like someone is holding a burning match to your skin for 1 1/2 to 2 days. I worry about stepping on them at night (barefoot) or if one of our dogs get stung. Damn, they are one UGLY creature. |

Knock on wood, I haven't seen any in Seagoville, but my front yard was overrun with fireants. I have a few bags of commercial grade Talstar and spread some in the front yard. It was like "nuke it from orbit". I still need to do the backyard, but I got to be careful with the dogs.
Skunks do seem really bad. I drove through a riverbottom last week with my windows down and my eyes started to water. Smelled lots of that recently. |

They're coming in looking for water during the heat and drought and is the reason they're sometimes found trapped in sinks and tubs. They have a thick shell like a crawdad and as a result
exterminators themselves will tell you they are hard to kill with pestisides. I was overrun with them one year in S. Austin. Stopped counting at thirty and filled a zippy with them. I only got stung once though, on the cheek when I rolled over in bed. The hallway leading to the bathroom I killed alot and even called it scorpion alley. One morning I felt something on my knee and when I went to scratch it felt a lump under my pants. I grabbed it and turned my pants inside out and shook a scorpian out. At that point I felt something between my shoulder blades but thought I was paranoid so I took my t shirt off and looked in the mirror. Sure enough there was another one curled up on my back. I took my t shirt and slung it over my shoulder to knock it off but when I looked it was still there. After that I don't remember much because everything became a blurr of swinging t shirt. I'll take them over those centipedes. |

Use this stuff (40.0% cypermethrin powder) for residual control in the house and outside on eaves, around windows and around foundation (especially weep holes) :
http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/cyper-wp-p-228.html Use this stuff (basically 0.2% bifenthrin granules) in the yard as a broadcast treatment. http://www.fertilome.com/product.aspx?pid=3daade8d-b278-4b2c-b581-d21996ede0ef |

Yea the scorpions have been very bad this year! Me and the wife stood outside and killed at least a hundred in about an hour. Rural area here also. Been here about 12yrs and never seen them like this in that time. Here is a good sight for info and poison for those little f*****s!

| I guess I'm not the only one with a scorpion problem then. This year has been interesting, with the poison ivy going wild this spring, the cracks in my pool getting bigger, 4 new armadillo holes around the property, having to have 3 big post oaks cut down, and my youngest daughter losing her job and moving back home. Also because of the burn ban, the now large burn pile has been collecting copperheads that come out every time I go by on the tractor. It has even been too hot to go out fishing in the back pond. |

I have them everywhere and kill one or two a month in the house every few weeks. Killed several in the yard. |

I dunno about it's effectiveness on scorpions, but it will sure kick butt on everything else. Of course it's off the retail market, so once you use it up, it's gone. |
