Something I've been thinking about lately and was curious how LEO would react.
Knowing the silly law about keeping firearms out of reach of children but then the ability of youths to be in possession of firearms, what about firearms in vehicles? 20+ years agos, it was very common to see a 16 yr old driving with a shotgun mounted in his truck but today I would imagine people would freak out. So here's my question: Since an adult is legally allowed to keep a firearm in their vehicle (both long gun and handgun), what are the rammifications giving teenager access to car? I'm sure it depends on jurisdiction but these child protection laws make me wonder. TXI? |

Take the gun out of the car then let the kid drive, seems simple enough. Yep. Let him drive to school with a gun in the car and see how that goes for him
I'm not discussing weapons at school so let's get back on topic. I have multiple cars and it would be reasonable for my kid to borrow one of my vehicles (NOT FOR SCHOOL). The kid is not a gang member and does not participate in illegal activities (that I know about) FWIW. What if I want my kid to take some firearms to the farm for me? Anybody want to post the relevant code TXI sourced? |

| My CHL instructor talked about illegal for access of minors. Probably can land you some jail time if you negligably allow minors a way to get them. I always wonder when punks get busted at school with daddy's pistol, ah, an adult allowed access to their weapons. |

How are mnors allowed to hunt in Texas if not allowed access to a weapon?? How many of us hunted under the age of 18? My kid passed hunter safety course so why not go hunting with friends. Kids 13 years old can legally operate a boat which I consider to be more dangerous than a firearm.
If I can trust a kid to drive, I can trust them with a gun. Again, excluding the "weapons at school" commnets, I'd like to hear y'alls arguments. |

from 46.06:
(c) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under Subsection (a)(2) that the transfer was to a minor whose parent or the person having legal custody of the minor had given written permission for the sale or, if the transfer was other than a sale, the parent or person having legal custody had given effective consent. |
