Do they work?  Which one would you recommend?

These guys came to the PD and showed it off a bit.  I missed it, but others said it seemed like a sweet piece of equipment.  I believe ITS tactical did a write up on it one time also, if you'd like to look it up.

They work.  Kicking in doors is a very common method of entry.  Delay and multipliable layers of security is part of any good security plan.

STRIKEMASTER II PRO is the easiest full strength solution out there.  It's a well thought out product.  When installed on all doors including the garage door.

Cheapest security is have a home security policy.

Do you keep the windows upstairs locked?  How about the garage door to the house?  How about skylights?  Alarm on your attic door?  Can I see valuables when I look into your house?  Do you open your door before looking though the peep hole?

That said if you have a sliding glass door to the backyard I'd spend money there first. Then change all your door locks to double keyed locks. Then get the door reinforcement.  Then work on lighting.  After that get the security film on all your windows.  Dogs are nice.  Alarms are good as well.  Do you lock your back gate?  Do you store stuff in the shed in the back yard?  What kind of bushes do you have gowning under your windows?  Two stories?

I could go on.  Don't look at the strike plate as keeping your home safe look at it as a small part of the whole.

Real story from Baton Rouge LA.  Mother and daughter got killed just before they left for school.  The bad guys had tried to kick down a neighbors locked and reinforced door first but couldn't get in then had moved on to the softer target.

I'm good on everything except security film on windows.  What is that?

3m is to expensive,  A lot of brands that are just as good for half the cost.

If a installer says that 3m is the best and they do not offer the other brands.  I would pass.

You can get security film and the cost to install it for the price of what 3m film by itself.

4mm film is ok... most would recommend 6 or 8mm film for security.  (cost more to install because the technique is the wet film installation.  4mm does not require it).

tintdude forum offer good insight on it, and what you should look for in a dealer/installer.

keep in mind.  The security film will start to bubble after 8 to 10 years.

pluss the film does not strengthen the film.  It keeps it broken pieces together.  Good if your home alarm's glass breakers alert to it.  Gives more time for the cops to show up if they tried to break in.

just remember, its not all-end producted.  Keep the layered security in ur home.

Go tot he armory section, go to home secuirty.  Firebird has listed a door jamb kit that only cost 25 bucks.  All the jamb is thin metal that does a good job.  doesn't cost 100 bucks to make one.

Thanks for pointing out the subform, I had no idea it was there.

I looked up the door jamb kit that you mentioned and they don't state any of the specs for that, it's probably thinner and cheaper steel than the door devil (whose site specifies that they use 14 gauge steel). I clicked on a link to their video (the 'Jamb Enforcer') and it states that it's also 14 gauge steel. They should probably just state that for easier comparison.

How does just using a heavy duty strike plate attached with 3" deck screws stand up?

Somebody posted a link (in Tx forum I think) to a door jam kit that had the reinforcement for the deadbolt around the door too.  The devil kit doesn't have that.  Doesn't do much good to beef up the frame and not the door.

Interesting! I like the idea. But I really wonder if it works.

I don't like it. Without it. Door gets kicked in alarm goes off burglar runs. $100 in damage. With it. Door gets kicked in alarm goes off burglar runs. $700 in damage. Cheaper in the long run without it.

You've been watching too many of those Brinks commercials. Don't put so much faith in one part of your security.

What??  What is it? And why does "it" cost $600 when damaged?  As for burglars running off at the sound of alarms.. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA, Breath, HA HA HA HA HA ....
