Yeah .22 has always been a no no.

Speaking of CHL, and not to hi-jack but sorta on-topic do you have any idea why DPS no longer takes rolled fingerprint cards for CHL applications?  Do we suck at doing prints that bad??

You know, if you don't spend all of that budget, you won't get it next year.

I'm just saying.

Yes.
Digital prints have a ZERO rejection rate.

Per TxDPS website:
"Effective March 1, 2011 all fingerprints must be submitted through Electronic Fingerprint Submission using L-1 Enrollment Services (L-1)"

Plus from what ive heard they have signed a contract with L-1 to be the sole provider. That may or may not be true.

For a number of years, the FBI has been accepting only electronic fingerprints. Therefore, the DPS had been scanning the paper prints, converting them to electronic format, and still getting a large number of rejections. Finally, someone at DPS rubbed 2 brain cells together and said, "Lets start off with electronic fingerprints, like our DL bureau has been doing for 10 years"

I use to work for a company that did a lot of parts business. One department was used to communicating via fax with small shops that had old hard to find parts in their inventory. Time passes and now there is this great thing called email used for communication. The small shops would now send an email and the email dept would send the email, AS A FAX, ACROSS THE BUILDING, to  the parts dept who were setup to deal with faxes and wouldn't change their procedure.  WTF?

Sometimes, change is a good thing.

This sucks because it will create more delays for CHL holders.  Now you have to find an agency that has this capability.  Small towns do not have AFIS systems.

L1 Locations

I imagine if you can find a CHL class you can find a nearby L1 location.  However, you bring up a good point.  I hope anyone who cannot find a nearby L1 location for their CHL class will report it here.

Right, well what i mean is that someone might have to drive a good distance to find an agency with that machine.  Not as big a deal in the larger metro areas, but it's still a huge inconvenience as your locations to get it done have been severely diminished.  Those machines are $10,000+

And, even myself.  Now I will, even as a LEO have to go to one of the OTHER agency's that has that machine and do it instead of in my own building.  Thats lame, too.

I don't know why you keep using the term "agency"  The DPS requires that you have the prints made at L1 locations.
