In the course of my slow review of places to perhaps buy some acreage within weekend reach of Houston, I've just started looking at Walker County. There seems to be some promise for finding a bit of land where I could, amonst other doings, shoot.
So, is there any serious drawback to Walker County? |

Huntsville is in it....and it's infested with blacks and prisoners and college kids (me)...and theres only one gun store here. Ables Ammo...which has some decent prices on ammo. I went to school there and i can say that out of your list, i didnt mind the black people. Of course theyre mostly the working, farming type up there. Prisons keep MOST of their population behind the walls, and the college kids arent a major problem if you stay out of that side of town and off the roads on tues and thurs night. Huntsville is really kind of an old person community anyway. |
| Then a lot has changed since you been up here. I've only been here for a year and I live in one of then nicer apartments close to campus. We have already had 3 shootings in the complex next to us....it's becoming an issue to where I have to carry a shotgun in my truck. |
| there was a pawn shop on the south side of town that dealt in new and used guns, did they stop selling? its been three or four years since i was there. most of Huntsville was pretty much slow lane if you stayed away from the university. Zach's was kickass and Shennanigans and the Jolly Fox were fun |

Just a few suggestions....
Walker Co. - no prob but like all the counties north of Harris and Montgomery, they are growing like crazy and will continue at a faster pace in 8-10 years when the economy rebounds. A lot of white flight occuring. Buy now. Also buy ten times the acreage you think you need (if possible). Better to have a shack on 200 acres than a mansion on ten. If possible get some land that backs up to one of the state or national forests. Or even some cheap bottomland. I'm in Polk County and the developers are harassing rangeowners and folks who shoot on their own land near their projects. Look up the 59 corridor too. I think you will find some better deals in North Liberty county and San Jacinto county. But check who's next door. I'm in North Polk county and the number of parolees and convicts is at the saturation point. Constant petty crime. In my area, literally half the households (about 70) have convicted felons in the household. Hope this helps. |

I just graduated last year. It's a good place OP. I love it. Yes sir. I hate it...lol. The most liberal university I have ever stepped on. Hence: I said stepped on. UT would be top choice for liberal, but I never go to Austin for that reason.. Their ROTC program is a joke as well. Tried it for a semester and never again. |

It's known for being pretty damn conservative. I never had liberal teachers except for philosophy... Business teachers never missed a chance to shit talk liberals, same with my poly sci professors. Sorry you are having a bad experience there, I miss it, especially Shenanigans. |

I'm in Liberty county, and it seems to be moving here from Montgomery county. Cleveland is pretty much tweaker town, and pretty fucked up. The farther east you go, the better it gets. Any town with some amenities such as a college, or a business base is infected with it. There's probably more criminals in the country than any city has. They pretty much have their way too. So if you buy a place and it has anything of value on it, you'll need some 24 hour security. Meaning dogs, bulls, stallions, ect. Otherwise, they will rob you blind, and turn your place into a trash dump. |

There are liberal hippies, and liberal blacks, and a few conservative people. We took a poll about ''carry on campus''. 87% of students choose to place a '' disaster siren'' (the ones they use for torandoes/tsunami) to alert the students on campus that there is a ''threat'' on campus. 13% polled to carry. |
