| I was recently transferred to Texas almost 18 months ago due to my job. I have finally been invited to go on a hog hunt, and need some help. I would like to use my new Remington SPS .308 Tactical, but have not found a place to sight it in. I live in Seagoville (in between Mesquite and Kaufman), and was hoping someone could direct me to a rifle range so I can get ready for this hunt. I will probably get transferred again soon, so along these lines, I have another question, which may sound strange to the Texas natives. If successful, I would like to keep this trip as a memory, and was wondering what the thoughts are on mounting one of these hog's head?......Is it possible, and if so, how much would cost, and does anyone know of a reasonable taxidermist in the same locality where I live?.....Any elp on these either of these questions would be GREATLY appreciated, & thanks in advance!! |

Gibson's Outpost, off Lawson Rd. will be your closest range AFAIK. Good Luck. Garland Public may be cheaper these days,$10 life membership, $10 a day to shoot. Don't suppose you have any contact info on Gibson's Outpost?...Thanks!! I googled Gibson's Outpost and got: http://gibsonoutpost.angelfire.com/ |

I haven't heard anything good about Gibsons, but it would be pretty close to you. Garland public range is fine, but it can get really busy on the weekends. I would be tempted to drive to Elm Fork in Irving if you just need to sight-in your scope.
As far as mounting goes, I think most people just do something with the tusks. It would be a much cheaper alternative if you do get a keeper. |

Just remember it is their range and their rules. If you don't like the rules, then you can go buy some land and open your own range. Frank and Doris are good people and you can shoot fmj at Gibson's. They do have a 200 yard range that you have to pay extra to use. |

You could get a European or skull mount of the head.
DRT Wildlife will do you a good job for a reasonable price. There are plenty of other taxidermy businesses that can do one as well. Euro mounts are a lot less expensive than a shoulder mount. |
