I was just wondering how the job market looks right now. I used to work for Hercule Offshore but got laid off awhile back like most everybody who worked for that company. Iv'e been wanting to get back into it before I go to shit and forget everything iv'e learned. Im looking to get on as a floorhand but ill go roustabout if thats all I can get. I live in Nevada now so Im kind of out of the loop as to how the industry is doing, who's hiring and who's not. Im looking to get on a barge or jackup with a 2 week on 2 week off schedule, the 1 week schedule I cant do. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm offshore right now. I should be working but we've been in port for almost a month now. I'm an ROV guy and I can say that we are slow right now. Granted it's winter and nobody really kicks off a job this time of year, but it's extra slow. Thanks Obama. don't believe the hype about the drilling moratorium being lifted. Not a single new lease has been granted and all the drilling jobs that were all stopped have not been granted permission to resume drilling. Maybe in a few more months, things will pick back up. I'm lucky to be getting the work I'm getting now. I can't wait to get back to the North Sea. Check out RigZone and Compass Personnel Services Good luck and stay safe.

I've been in the industry for a while now. I don't work that close to operations any more, but I've heard from the people in the gulf and seen our job counts, and while there is some drilling going on, it's still far from where it was before the moratorium. When it hit, we transferred a lot of people from there to all over the world, and most of those people are still where they were sent. On the bright side, activity on land is really high nowadays, so you might have better luck getting onto a land rig.
