This afternoon I got bored sitting inside in this perfect Texas weather so I grabbed a couple rod and reels, cut up some of last year's freezer burned deer meat and went down to the lake, about 150 yards , and baited up. I was curious if deer meat would even work on catfish. I didn't take a camera because I didn't expect any Kodak moments and then I proceeded to catch a 30" long Blue cat, by far my biggest, on an el cheapo Zebco. I laid it next to the rod, the mouth was where the rod met the cork handle and the tail went to the second rod guide. I took a piece of string and wrapped it around the girth and tied a knot.
When I got back up to the cabin I measured the rod, 30" and the string approx. 20" and using a formula girth x girth x length
divided by 690 = 20.34lb. Does that sound about right, considering it was 6" shy of being three feet? The formula I found on the net to measure trout. Anybody else ever catch a 30" Blue or yellow cat and actually weigh it so I can get a comparison?

I just got there when I caught it and didn't even take a stringer so I released it asap. I'm into catch and release on the big breeding females plus I didn't want to mess with cleaning, skinning it.
