Have any of you gone to them to get fitted for shoes, or purchased shoes from them before?

I am in dire need to shoes that fit correctly and they are the only place I can find that fits shoes to you. If anyone knows of anywhere else, please speak up.

REI is another choice if you live in DFW area.  Their staff is very knowledgeable, IMO.

I am in the Garland/Richardson area.

I'll have to check out REI too. Thanks!

Run On does a good job...... It is not really that hard to fit shoes, but if you don't know what to look for, just go see someone.

Hence the asking about stores.

Is this the place where you go and they put you on a treadmill of sorts and record you walking, running, etc?

If so, I have a brother in law who went and was very complimentary.  He loves his running shoes.

I think Fort Worth Running Company and Luke's Locker will both help fit you into shoes, and help you out.  Once you know what kind you need and the arch etc, you can always go to Road Runner Sports and order them online too.

The Road Runner catalog has a guide for fitting your shoes, but you might want to go local to make sure you get the correct information.

I have no idea if Run On! checks your gait by putting you on a treadmill. Sounds like it would be a good way to electronically figure out your gait.

I have seen charts and whatnot online on how to tell what your gait is like, but I'd rather have someone more knowledgeable than me steer me in the right direction.

Run On! and/or Luke's Locker would be my top recommendations.

I will also give a recommendation for Luke's Locker.  My wife and I have both purchased running shoes from the Plano location (Shops at Legacy) and they will spend a ton of time with you to make sure that you are getting the best shoe for your foot and running style.

They WILL NOT be the cheapest, but the service is worth it - at least one time to ensure that you are buying the right shoe for you.

A good pair of running shoes will run $100+. Models do vary year to year, but you can always get last years model for $25 less or so. When you go to lukes locker or run run their going to tell you what kind of runner you are(Neutral, pronator, under pronator). You can also look at your old shoes wear pattern. A neutral runner usally has a flat foot and their shoes will not have every much arch and if you look at them they are basically all flat on the bottom. A pronator(aka support shoe) is someone who needs support on the medial side of the shoe cause their angle to there ankle when they strike the ground. So look at the medial side(inside part) and it will always be a differnet color. And for an under pronator that means you run/walk on the outside of your foot, a good cushioning shoe is about all you can do.

Brooks, Saucony, and my favorite Asics are all good brands. Nike in my opinion is all about looks and aren't the best running shoe. When you go to the store find out what runner you are, try on all their shoes, and buy a pair. When you figure out you like them, then go online for the rest of your shoes. You will get 10-20% savings on new models, and  20-30% on last years model with no tax and free shipping.

I went to the one in Coppel back in early June and they were more helpful than any shoe store I have ever been do.  I didn't end up buying anything from them as I was looking for a pair of Nike Free's, and they did not have any in stock.

Hard to quote an average price, but you better be prepared to spend $100+.  They tend to carry "true" runners shoe brands such as brooks, asics, new balance, etc.  As one other poster said, you only need to do this one time to find the type of shoes/brand that fit you the best, and then you can order online from there.  It truly makes a difference to have properly designed shoes for your running style.

I just went to a New Balance store and they found a pair that fit me very well..    My wife went through a sizing/fitting at Justin's Boots, fit her like a glove.

Awesome. Thanks everyone for your replies. Sounds like I will be set to go at any of the stores I choose to go with. Run On! is closest to where I live, so I'll probably swing in there this coming up weekend.

If you make it to Austin, RunTex is the best.

+1 for Luke's Locker (Shops at Legacy).   I experienced some plantar fascitis this year and went there to get fitted for some better running shoes.   They asked good questions about my workout habits, issues, etc., had me try on a few different pairs of shoes, walk then run up and down their "runway" to see how my heels were striking.  The new shoes properly fit my feet, helped tremendously with my heel striking issue.  Thankfully, I no longer have pain when wearing my new Asics that cost me <$100.00 at Luke's (Honestly I expected to pay $150 + and at that point would have gladly paid $200 just to stop the pain).   Turns out that the best shoes for me were one of the less expensive pairs they sell!
I later checked them out for sandals, but they really don't carry anything for my needs (PF) so I went to REI in Plano.    I love REI, but when it comes to shoes they don't know JACK and I don't think my sales guy could have found his a$$ with both hands and a visual aid...  He just kept repeating what he had obviously heard, but didn't understand...   just my .02

ETA - Grammar fixes :)

I went ahead and stopped at Run On! today on my way home from work. The lady there was very helpful, and full of knowledge. She had me take my shoes off and walk barefoot about 10 yrds away and back. Evidently, the majority of the shoes out there are for people that tend to over supinate, so the odds were stacked against me as I don't over supinate or over pronate. I have a normal walking pattern and I am not flat-footed or have high arches.

She got me fixed up in a pair of shoes after trying a few of them on. I went with these. I have 30 days to see if I like them and if they help out, then great! If not, I can return/exchange them.
