Some of you here may remember my thread a while back about my step-brother doing a murder suicide at home with his wife. Tough deal for everyone. Well, for years and years He had used my Dad`s 1959 Winchester 88/308 as his hunting rifle. After the police finished their investigation all of his weapons were turned over to me. Yesterday I dropped the 308 off @ Rays in Dallas for a 100% complete restoration to factory new condition. I am planning on this rifle being a "safe queen" as it IS 50 yrs old. It is a fine rifle that has taken many many trophies over the yrs but was definitely showing it`s age. The rifle has flip top mounts (not many around these days) and I was able to secure an original extra magazine for it a few yrs ago. The gunsmith was able to locate an original sling (old double hole leather type with brass tabs etc.). He also had a like new Weaver 4x scope on hand that was the original scope on the gun from the fifties.

At any rate I am very pleased to be able to retain this rifle for my family even if it never gets to go hunting again.

That's great news on being able to hang on to a family heirloom.

It is bittersweet to pull a positive out of such a tragedy.  Congrats to you!

I would leave it alone if it is gone to be a safe queen.  But that is just my 2 cents.

I considered that. My dad always kept his shit perfec. Step brother not so much. I also want to be able to hand down the value of keeping my shit clean to my son/gran kids. It is my decision,,,,this is how it went down.
