This is the official bulletin from the Texas Department of Public Safety announcing as of May 1st concealed handgun licensees renewing their CHL will no longer be required to include pictures or finger prints.

I copied this from an email I got from TSRA.  I guess someone finally figured it out.

Da Link Yo

Does anyone else think this has something to do with this being an election year?

I do not see it as an improvement, but more work, as now you have to go get in line for digital prints. Two steps instead of one.

Agreed.  It is easier to go to ONE class, get everything done, then send it off.

Well hell, why can't they just scan the ones they have on file?

Doesn't it make you warm and fuzzy that the Census Bureau has been working this long collecting your personal information without a proper background checks?

I've asked this question for years.  Most of the time I got .  It's not like they change.

I believe it is because the FBI does not maintain prints that are only for background checks.  That is why you only do ONE print card (the FBI card) on renewal.

Actually, finger prints do change over time as your hands age certain features become less prominent. I have seen several older people that had to have their prints taken over and over because it was so hard to get legible prints off of them. Whether or not that is the reason I dunno.

Hmm... Looks like some things never change.

When they started TSA, they only waited about 18 months after hiring folks to run the background checks.

Looks like they are only waiting 2 or 3 months after hiring for census workers.

Good news for CHL though.

When they make it a "lifetime" license, shitcan the seperate CHL card and just have a designation on your DL, then we will have made progress.

Bumping an old thread:

I just completed the renewal portion online, and there is NO mention of fingerprints or pictures. The checklist that printed out said that the only thing I had to send in was the checklist itself and my CHL-100 training form certificate.

It even says on their webpage (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/renew.htm):
After receiving the renewal packet in the mail, renewing license
holders must return the following items to the Department:

  1. Renewal application as corrected (if needed)

  2. Completed affidavits

  3. Proof of training (CHL 100)

  4. Court documents of pending charges or convictions

  5. Documentation of name change if necessary

  6. Any documentation on status change regarding special
    conditions other than senior citizen

You complete the application and affidavits online, #4, 5, and 6 don't apply. The only thing extra I need to send in is a copy of my naturalization certificate or passport since I wasn't born here.
