Build using a Spikes CHL M4 Upper and a lower purchased at the Gun Show.  SOG Armory had some nice specials on RRA and Kaiser Defense lowers at the last show at the Geroge R...around $85 each.

+1 for a GRB Gunshow or Tomball Pawn & Gun.  What part of Houston are you in?

I also suggest Jim Pruett's shop off 290  or The Arms Room in League City.

Check A Gun Shop at HW6 and Clay, he usually has some in stock and a ton of parts.

As Joat mentioned, Texas Tactical Gear.  Good selection of parts & eager to please the customer that wants to spend money + they are in his part of town.

They are usually set up at all of the Pasadena Gun Shows too.

They happen to have a goodly hunk of my money too.

Another +1 for Texas tactical. Jen and her crew will bend over backwards to help you out and answer any questions you have.

I had a very bad experience at the Armsroom.   Two major reasons:  Being accused of not being an American and being accused of being dropped on my head when I was a child.

A friend told me that it wasn’t the owner of the store that said that, but one of the employees.  I do not care if it was the owner or not.  That guy still works there.  So as long as that guy works for the Armsroom, I will tell people of my experience.

There are better gunshops in Houston with friendlier people.

Avoid Carter's and Collectors.  SOG or Texas Tactical are good options, the GRB (or Reliant) gun show trumps all.

Since he's in Texas City why not check out Ts guns and ammo. They're right there off of Loop 197. The man that runs the place is awesome to talk to and has some very good prices. I'm sure if he doesn't have it in stock he can order it for you. His name escapes me at the moment.

Texas Tactical is also very good. I go to them as much as I can although I've only been a few times they're very close to where I live. And Jen knows what she's talking about.

I went in there once and he was trying to sell a pair of ESAPI plates stolen from the military for $300 with a plate carrier.  That was the last time i went into that place....

I think T's is closed now.  They stopped selling their reloads a couple of years ago.
And to the OP, Texas Tactical is also a very good shop.

T's is open again at their original location off the loop.  Roy got tired of being retired and got back into the business.  Roy (old guy) and Pat (old guy's wife) Tipton are good people.

The Arms Room in League City, lots of ARs in stock plus they'll build you whatever you want.

Are they reloading ammo again?  I've always heard much praise for their ammo.

Yeah they're reloading again. Roy just isn't doing the gun shows anymore.

Pretty good prices on the reloads as well. Everytime i've gone in he was pretty busy.

Last I checked his .45 reloads were $30 for 100 rds

fred usually doesn't have high end AR's in stock, but he can  more than likely order them.  he's a bit high on transfer fees...i think $50/gun.  his prices seem pretty fair though for what he does carry.
ETA he's also closed on sundays and mondays.

+1

My friend bought an FN FNP 40 there for 620 bucks

When I showed him that I got an FNP 45 off of GB (Tanner's) for 465 he vowed never to buy another gun without checking with me first.
