Just got an email from them that their range is reopening Saturday. They extended it to 70 feet, got a new filtration system, and...you can now shoot ball ammo from your AR's instead of overpriced frangible. If someone goes and checks it out this weekend, can you post a report on the new facilities? |

Maybe now they might be worth checking out even if it is a bit of a drive for me. |

No steel case ammo according to the website. ![]() I think pretty much all of the indoor ranges around here are like that. It interferes with their brass reselling operations I guess. Dumb@$$ reason... A magnet will easily separate out all the steel cases... |

Dumb@$$ reason... A magnet will easily separate out all the steel cases... Yes but it cuts down on "profit" 50 people go to the range and shoot 50 rounds each 500 bucks in range fees plus "X" rounds and 2500 pieces of brass you don't want to have to pay to sort and subtract the lost income from even more outside ammo. Not to mention "steel case" blasters don't aim and wayward rounds tear up your gear. |

I went to Top Gun once when I was over in Houston, I wasn't really that impressed anyway. |

Shiloh is much closer to us North siders. True, but does Shiloh let you shoot rifles? I've never seen anyone doing it and since they don't even allow magnum handguns I've always assumed ARs were a no-go there. Probably not, but I prefer to shoot rifles at longer distances. Last time I was at Topgun, I was checking out their knives and some guy that works there wearing a "concealment" vest that screamed "Nerd alert" starting telling me to buy knives with button slide locks instead of liner locks and talking out his ass about steel and one-handed opening. He kept pulling out a Spyderco and a benchmade as if he was Billy badass. He finally asked me what I carried if at all. I pulled out my push knife which he said was illegal (It's single edged and quite legal) then my Ti-lite Cold steel which he said "The straight blade is not a good defender" , then I pulled out my CRKT M16 with Carson flipper and he said it's too cheap a knife for anything. I just started laughing at him, which kind of pissed him off. I told him I left my Emerson Combat Karambit at home that day, that maybe he thought it would pass muster, to which he replied "Emerson's are overpriced for the steel they use" I looked at the guy behind the counter and said "I guess next time I talk to Ernest at the Shot Show I'll let him know how this guy feels" I left. |

That place is run by mall ninjas and most of their patrons need a safety lesson but the facility itself is one of the nicest in town. I would like a nice air conditioned indoor range to do some carbine shooting. I may check it out again now that their rules have changed but doubt I'll see any improvements in the way it is run. |

I gotta agree with that. The facility is pretty nice and the location is convenient for me, but some of the guys are a little mallninja-y. I called once asking if they had any of the Lasermax laser guide rods for the M&P in stock, and I get a lecture on how the guy thinks that lasers suck and laser guide rods really suck for reasons I didn't really bother to listen to. I had to hang up on him, since he wouldn't shut up and I sure didn't feel like getting into an argument with some desk jockey who never even asked what I planned to do with it. |

They told me that Aimpoints were cheap knock-offs of ACOGs. ![]() I did my CHL there, as well, and it was a pretty horrible class full of pretty horrible advice. The tactical mall ninja is definitely their first choice for employees. I've been mostly going to Memorial Shooting Center, but I will probably go to Top Gun to shoot rifles sometimes when I don't feel like driving out to Katy or want to shoot faster than they let you out at ASC. |
