Has anybody used this service before?  I joined a few months ago when I was trying to offload my XD.  I had an acceptable offer within about an hour of posting but then he totally flaked out on me.  Never made the exchange with him and haven't been back on the site until tonight.  Just wondering if anybody else has had any experience with this "service."

I wouldn't let one person effect how I felt about it.   Just be careful, watch for the scamer's, and if doing a face to face exchange do it in a public place, not at your home.

Bought an 870 I didn't want or need for $150, deal went smooth and he gave me the hard case it was in.

Found my Mosin m44- Good easy transaction

Traded my AK for a savage .308, went smooth Me San Antonio he was in Dallas had a buddy run mine up and bring the savage down. We worked out the detail on the phone.

Bought an aimpoint for $150, think the guy tried to screw me. I checked it was real and turned on and made the deal, about every other shot it would shut off unless I was pushing on the battery cap. Turns out the extended battery cap is supposed to have a thing to hold the batteries in place. $25 part but I just stuck some foil in to take out the slack and its been working fine for 6 months and 1000 rounds.

I peruse it from time to time.  I've scored some ammo and actually got my M&P from a guy who posted it on there.  Remember, face to face transactions in a public place.  Be aware of your surroundings and use good judgement... Not really any different advice you'd get buying anywhere else.

As far as flakes and no-shows go, yes, TGT has them too, but nothing compares to no-shows and flakes on Craigslist... although I've scored some awesome deals on CL.

Good luck.

I've used it without any issues.  It's like any other similar website, there will be flakey people and scammers.  With some of the deals gone bad from Ebay and Craigslist that have been in the news the past year, always plan things out in advance, meet somewhere very public, and be careful.  Also, I've found that if you have some patience you will usually get your asking price as long as it's not totaly out of whack.

With photography also being a hobby, and having bought and sold plenty of camera gear on craigslist, it's not hard to figure out the scammers. Have bought/sold  guns, ammo, etc. on there as my tastes change. As said above, always in a public place... parking lots of Academy, Carter's, Starbucks, places like that. Always gone smooth. If if makes you feel better sell only to CHL's, every one I've met seemed to be upstanding people.

I liked it a lot better when it was in its basic form before it went commercialized and was stocked full of a bunch of chinese crap accessories and optics.  I do understand that the owner has to make a buck to keep the site open, but it use to be better.

Yeah, people on there are pretty flakey.  Oh well, what can you do.  But, whenever a transaction does go through, it's usually very smooth.  I can't really complain too much, being that it's local and free.

I purchased a gun and an EOTech from people on the site. I haven't sold anything on it though. Not every poster has responded to my replies to thier ads. Those that have responded were curtious and more than willing to meet in public locations for a face to face. i think my experiences are as good as can be expected from that type of site.

Its the greatest thing since sliced bread.  I think people are forgetting it stinking FREEEEE.  I've sold 3 guns on there and bought 2, and some other stuff.  They have all been the nicest people.  Heck one was a judge and came back to my house for a chat.  My rules for trading are very simple.  Tell them you will want to see a DL, CHL's are prefered, we will meet in a public place, I always pack heat to the trade, and if someone can go with me I take them and tell the person about it beforehand.  Never had anything but a smooth deal.  Oh and I only deal in cash thats a big one.

I have sold two pistols and one rifle on there (all three within a day), and bought two rifles on there.  All transactions were very positive.  Like everything else, you have to take everything with a grain of salt, especially the high sales prices and the lowball offers.  I think it's a great tool for the enthusiasts.

I have sold 3 guns and bought 1 on there with no problems.  Public place, cash, and I have them sign a bill of sale I put in the back of my safe if the gun I am selling is registered to me.  Have met some nice folks and few invitations to go shoot.  I am always carrying but I do that anyways.

Bought and sold quite a bit of stuff off TGT. Have been scammed once () and have had at least 3-4 folks try to scam me. Got to be VERY careful since there is no feedback mechanism. There are at least two know scam adds on there right now (usually take the moderator a few days to take a scam add down).

Other than the one time I was scammed (live and learn), my most frustrating experience was a flaky seller. Drove 100 miles and he never showed up. I called him back and he apologized and said he would meet me the next day. Did another 100 mile drive and he still did not show up and then refused to return phone calls or e-mails. I talk to a couple of other folks and he has done this many times. He just keeps changing his account name so hard to know when he will pop up with another "deal".

The really good deals only last minutes but the crappy deals stay on there fore-ever. Because the good deals get deleted it seems to tend to draw in stupidly high prices. I have to think that Joe Schmo sees someone advertise a WASR for $1000 and must go "Wow. They are going for that? Let me put mine on there for $900.". The the next person sees the ad for $900 and goes "Wow. A WASR is going for $900. That must men my Yugo underfolder must be worth $1200....."

I can't count the number of times someone on there has called me a $#@&! lowballer when I have actually given them a very respectable offer . I can say with some conviction that if you put a good price on something it will sell pretty fast. If you put a "fair" price then it will likely sit there for a while and you should expect lots of offers.

I've sold a couple and bought a few off of TGT.  As long as you use common sense you should be fine.
