Hivemind,

Does anyone know or have a link to show what is the maximum time between taking the CHL class and submitting the application?

Due to some unforseen circumstances my wife has not been able to submit her app to DPS.  She took her class back on the first week of January.

Help please....

Thanks,

Texas Administrative Code

TITLE 37PUBLIC SAFETY AND CORRECTIONS
PART 1TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
CHAPTER 6LICENSE TO CARRY HANDGUNS
SUBCHAPTER BELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES
RULE §6.12Basic Information to be Submitted with Application

In addition to the information required by the Act, an application must contain all the following items:
 (1) Proficiency certificate. The applicant must submit a handgun proficiency certificate (TR 100) issued upon successful completion of a handgun proficiency course approved by the department and taught by a certified handgun instructor. A proficiency certificate submitted by an original applicant will not be accepted by the department if it is more than two years old. A proficiency certificate submitted by a renewal applicant will not be accepted by the department if it is more than six months old.

I have "heard" that if you paid online then they will only accept your application ONE year after you pay, but I have yet to see a provision for that in the law, or an exception to the two year requirement in the above section.

I waited most of a year before submitting. No problem.

Told you.

Teach you to question me.

(I just realized that I told 97Ag and she may have not shared the info with Mrs. TxBird.)

This thread helped me. I took the class in May and just sent it in today.

I am assuming I will be waiting 70+ days due to the upcoming holidays.

OK....My wife submitted her paperwork for renewal the last week of August, and just TODAY it came in the mail.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but she should be prepared for a longer-than-normal wait.

Took me 54 days to get mine and it was a new app, I had heard they hired some additional people to help them out and the day I got it the online checker said "processing application" ?

You have 2 years to turn it in.

I submitted mine,  new app on 10/06/09 , online shows processing application. I hope to have it by end of this month November or early December.

As far as processing times, my dad's and both of my in-laws took 5-6 months.  First of May till mid October.

I think you may have fallen in the "Peak Application" time frame. That seemed to be a common experience back then.

Really?

I am thinking that the holidays will delay the processing time a bit. It is the government after all.

I just went and looked at the DPS meeting minutes for september and it looks like they are planning on putting the entire CHL application process online in 2010, including fingerprints somehow.

Should be interesting to see how that affects their current lag time.

Are you referring to the Public Safety Commission?

Can you link that?  I'd like to see it.

Sure, here you go.

They are really slow in putting up the transcripts, but the minutes and audio get updated fairly quickly.

ETA: The august transcript contains a bunch of info on the backlog and calls out Harris County for sitting on 8,000 applications which then got dumped back to DPS all at once.

I took mine 90 days before expiration. My renewal came in about 45 days.
