I moved from Indiana to the Panhandle then here to Houston, I have found out thru links that TX recognizes my Indiana permit so my question is can I carry with my Indiana permit while waiting to get my TX CHL ?
I have a TX address and my permit shows my Indiana address |

Yes you can carry with your Indiana permit in Texas and MUST have it with you when you carry.
Protocol in TX is that if you are stopped by LEO while carrying you must present both your DL and your CHL. When you take the TX CHL class they should review all this info in detail. |
| Do you have an Indiana DL or a Texas DL? Does an Indiana handgun license remain valid when the holder moves to another state? Have you filed a change of address for your handgun license with the Indiana State Police? |

I have a TX Drivers license, changed it when I moved here I have been told that as long as I have taken the class and am waiting I can carry with my Indiana permit but they were not sure, have not taken the class yet thou That is not quite right. Texas recognizes Indiana CHL. If it is valid (not expired) then you can carry in TX with it. All TX laws apply so make sure you understand where you can and cannot carry. As mentioned it might be a good idea to update your Indiana CHL with your CURRENT TX address. You might also want to take the TX CHL course so that you are clear on TX laws with respect to CHL. Be Safe! |

It isn't just a good idea, it's the law. IC 35-47-2-3
Application for license to carry handgun; procedure ... (i) If a person who holds a valid license to carry a handgun issued under this chapter: (1) changes the person's name; (2) changes the person's address; or (3) experiences a change, including an arrest or a conviction, that may affect the person's status as a proper person (as defined in IC 35-47-1-7) or otherwise disqualify the person from holding a license; the person shall, not later than thirty (30) days after the date of a change described under subdivision (3), and not later than sixty (60) days after the date of the change described under subdivision (1) or (2), notify the superintendent, in writing, of the event described under subdivision (3) or, in the case of a change under subdivision (1) or (2), the person's new name or new address. ... http://www.in.gov/legislative/ic/code/title35/ar47/ch2.html If you have a Texas DL and an Indiana CHL with matching TX addresses, you should be good to go. |

I guess I need to contact the firearm division of the ISP Dept and submit a address change, I then plan on taking a CHL Class at Hot Wells they seem to be the cheapest and give a discount to Vets
Edit: I just found out you can do a free address change to my Indiana permit but they will have it on file at there office if I want a new permit issued with the new TX address it will cost $20 so would either work or do I need to have my address on my Indiana permit show my TX address ? |
